Wondering if someone can help me. A friend of mine was driving a hire car (kendle cars from aldershot) and the window exploded. He said he didn't hear anything hit it and it seamed fine.
He's stopped at the side of the motorway with AA on route to him now.
I don't suppose anyone will know if they can replace the window at roadside? and if not what will they do in regards to him getting back on the road? patch it up ect?
Appreciate the help as he obviously can't exchange the car now as he's 200 miles from the hire company.
Thanks in advance.

There should be a number for autoglass in the paperwork he has from the hire company - AA won't be able to do anything...

He used one of the road side emergency phone's and they told AA to go out and said it was some kind of glass specialist.
Just thinking if they can't repair it (it's totally shattered) can they at the very least protect it against the elements so he can take it in to be fixed tomorrow?0 -
AA replaced my windscreen, but not at the roadside.
At home by appointment as obviously they had to order the correct screen. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -
There are details of what to do on the blue sheet they give you when you hire from them.
I would check whether windscreens are covered before committing yourself to Autoglass as they are expensive0 -
The AA are unlikey to have a stock of windows. They best they will do is tow car to a garage. Could the hire car company not help out, do they have a 24 hour number?0

I've tried calling them for him to no avail it seam's to be a mobile number with a voicemail. Left one telling them to call him and giving a brief explanation however he's not had a call as of yet.
I figured they'd not replace it at the roadside, after all it's highly unlikely they'd have glass to fit it however he's 200 miles from the rental and about 150 from here right now so just wondering what the best action plan is besides him being stranded there for the night.0 -
i hired a peugeot estate a few years ago and the rear windscreen exploded, turned out to be a rear window heater fault,is it the windscreen or another window?,
the hire company sent me as replacement car the next day(i was on the isle of wight) but i didnt have to pay any extra,

The AA do replace windscreens, as I posted above. Google it if in doubt! This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -
Just got off the phone with him. AA towed him to a service station and he called the repair people for the company who finally answered. They have informed him that he CAN drive it as it is and they'll drive him a new hire car over here (about 400 miles) Seam's a bit extreme rather than telling him to take it to get the window replaced but all sorted now x0

It was the drivers window that exploded not the windscreen0
