This wasn't mis-selling, but mis-buying - but rolling up purchases you never really wanted means the consumer needs more self-control. After the agreement was signed a copy will have been returned by post - I suppose this wasn't read either?

Salespeople need to be more honest and not try to con people who are too trusting.

I'm afraid that's a comment that sits with crooks shouldn't break laws and politicians shouldn't lie. Nice idea, but it ain't ever gonna happen.

Sadly shoppers need to take responsibility for reading and understanding transactions.

The latin phrase caveat emptor "buyer beware" sums it up.

It makes me sad that you can not trust ANYONE these days. It was not long ago that you could, but since the 60's it seems to have gotten worselike this in this case.
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

What we have also seen since the 60's is a massive abdication of personal responsibility.

The consumer gets all the information they require in the contract that they can read before they sign. Just because they don't read it and it then backfires it MUST be someone else fault (right??).

I view these things as a stupid tax, if you are too stupid or lazy to read the contract and get stung it is your own damned fault.
    Thinking critically since 1996....

So if you are not able to read or understand contracts you deserve it, what a sad opinion.

    Sorry, I can't understand that.

What are you suggesting that someone who is unable to read or understand an important document should do?

Just sign it anyway... surely not?

Unfortunately people do, they tend to believe that they are OK in big stores.

It's just a shame that everyone isn't perfect like some of the uncaring people on here.
  • Thanks for the heads up on this!

My Mom will be buying a laptop soon, probably from Currys or PC World, she will be paying with cash. I know now to refuse any finance agreements offered (I will be going with her when she buys it).

I agree that leasing agreements can be ok for businesses. My ex-employer used to do it with the printer/photocopier, but for us everyday consumers it's a rip-off!
Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £9,441.52 Nearly there!
