    Not necessarily. A Cash Card+ is a VISA debit card, it's just not the full VISA debit card. It's more like the old Electron cards, although they don't call it that, and it won't say Electron on it.

    Confused as the two cards have different names;
    CashCard+ (which is an online full auth VISA card)
    &
    VISA Debit card

    The OP on here stated under facilities offered; Cashcard+ for his Flexaccount but mine didn't say that...

    As a matter of interest, why do you want a cheque book when you have a card, and when you can send online payments to anyone who has a UK bank account?

    If you have someone come and do work on your house ... how do you pay them? Get their bank details, set up a payee, and use faster payments?

    Frankly, I'd rather just write a cheque.

    Withdraw cash beforehand (you do get a quote before inviting someone into your house, right?)

    I'd rather have a paper trail.

    Unless it's an ex-vat job, of course ...

    I'd never pay someone that has visited and done a job at my house in cash. No proof of any money changing hands or the amount. They give me an invoice at the end of the job and I give them a cheque for the value of the invoice if I'm happy with the work.

    No invoice, no payment. I don't do "That'll be £60 please".

    I dunno. Theres this handy man near me, who's sort of like a friend now and he sorts out all the little jobs that my family needs doing (including cousins etc...)

    He's cheap and does a good job. We pay him in cash, and I think once/twice he's even done something for us for free :money:

    Going back to OP - I would ring Nationwide - I have always found them very helpful, either the national number or the local branch.
    I have a Flex Account, and have both a cheque book and a debit card.

    As for paying tradespeople: I ask what suits them, and increasingly they like BACS. A lot of small business operate on very close margins, and they are glad to have the money in their account both quicker (and often cheaper, some are still charged for cheques) than having to pay in at a bank.
    I know some MSEers don't like the "card readers" used by Nationwide, but I do and find it very convenient.
