Black Tiles in a Bathroom - Awful or Different?

The bottom half of my bathroom walls are fitted with good quality black tiles which do look expensive (they were bought by the previous owner) I also have dark wooden vanity units and bath panels, which although dated, do look nice.
I'm thinking ahead for when I sell and am wondering if I should replace the tiles with a more modern colour, say, cream? Also either paint the bath panel a cream colour or replace it with another material? Likewise the vanity unit cupboard.....
I don't want to waste money when it isn't necessary, but I do think black tiles can only appeal to the minority? The overall effect does look rich and opulent (I have burnt orange and gold towels, flowers etc) which does look striking, but it just isn't modern.
Would you leave the bathroom as it is or modernise it for when you want to sell? I just can't decide:cool:

I recently had my bathroom refitted. White ceiling, black floor tiles, black wall tiles on two walls and white wall tiles on the opposite two.
It looks very striking and modern (IMHO) and my friends agree.
As with most things, though, it's all down to personal taste. If you don't plan to move immediately and are happy with the colour combination, why spend money unnecessarily?0 -
I've just picked some black tiles for my new house from Porcelanosa - it's not something that I would have considered until I saw it in the show room, admittedly.
They're going to be round the shower and 1 wall, paired up with white tiles. Personally, I don't think there is anything "unmodern" about black tiles.0 -
Ipersonally think you'll always get a mixed response on whatever you say about a bathroom....the big no no being possibly coloured bathroom suites at the moment.
Anything that looks dated in a persons eyes will probably need to be changed ...but its very much personal preference...I always decorate my house (sorry our house!) the way I / we like it rather than thinking or trying to guess what the next occupant will want...
The problem you may face if you just replace one aspect of the bathroom will be that once you replace the tiles the rest of it may look like it needs doing too!frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

I can only say that I find black, especially glossy black in the bathroom or kitchen not to my taste at all. Too heavy and OTT. The other thing is that I think like any of the more extreme or borderline taste styles it will probably date quickly.
on the other hand, I would always say have something you like, not something that other people like!Solar install June 2022, Bath

Black and white is timeless. I would say that though as we had our bathroom refitted last year, 3 walls fully tiled in white and one wall and the floor tiled in black with v dark wood fitted units all along the black wall. It's v striking and modern yet I don't think will date.0

just found a pic of my black and white bathroom for you to see. Bear in mind its a year old, so relatively new and not old fashioned at all! :-)0

tiles the same as paint are a very indivual thing what appeals to one won't appeal to another, if you like your bathroom then leave it as is & save your money.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
I have just finished my bathroom with large high gloss black tiles on allfour walls with white fitted units. The reflective properties of the blacktiles the room seems a lot bigger and brighter.

I've recently redone my bathroom in black and white. Black sparkly floor tiles, white wall tiles with black sparkly mosaics as a border. Glittery black toilet seat and black and white vanity unit. OTT but fabulous and I have had lots of compliments on it.3 stone down, 3 more to go0
