Reclaim PPI From Blackhorse Finance

Hi all i decided to try and reclaim some PPI from my old bank loans as it will come in handy for deposit for morgage if i manage to get anything.

First of all i rang HSBC who was very helpful in giving me reference numbers for 6 loans i have had and 4 of them had PPI on them. They told me to email them with a letter of complaint wishing to claim it back. Has anyone got a letter Template i can send them please as im not the best with grammar as you can probably tell lol.

Next i rang Blackhorse and i think i have had 3 loans with them probably totalling £15,000 or so. Thing is the HSBC ones was around 1998-2002 and the Blackhorse ones was after those and they can't give me any details on them. They said i need to ring my bank and ask for the loan reference number on the direct debit. I have tried that and my statments don't go back far enough. Is there any other way i can get the details from them? Im sure they must have something as the loans was took out between probably 2001- 2004 ish.

Many thanks in advance
Paul

    All the information you require is here

    Send them the completed Ombudsman PPI Questionnaire (one for each loan), as they'll ask for these later on.

    Banks typically keep records for about six years.
    You can write a Subject Access (SAR) letter which will net you all information they have on file for you. This will cost you £10 and they have 40 days to respond.
    Excellent template here;

    Thanks for your reply i have now sent a email to HSBC and they are looking into it for me. Just a bit unsure what to put in the SAR letter for Blackhorse as i have never banked with them so have no account numbers etc. All i borrowed off them for was car finance and i also had a personal loan from them. Should i just put as much info on that i know like previous address etc?

    Many thanks

  • I had the exact same thing with Black Horse, I thought I had hit a dead end until they told me to check an old credit file. Fortunetly when I rang experian they were able to find 1 loan agreement number which I gave them and they then ahd notes of another one (consolidation) and that one then had notes of another one (again, consolidation) so I would say, ring experian. Failing that I was told by them, when I was struggling to get mine that they are in the process of trying to contact everyone who ever held PPI on a product by checking credit reference agencies (a blind check so it wont affect your score) This way they will be able to tell if you have ever moved or changed your name and will be able to get the right person. The guy at the time said it would take about 2 years for it to get off the ground but they have a team already working on it.

    I tried ringing experian and they wouldnt tell me anything and said i need to sign up for the credit check. Signed up and its pretty useless. I know when me and my girlfriend applied for the rent on our house they found a CCJ on my record but i cant see it on there? Should i just send a SAR letter with all the details i know then?

    Hi Paul,

    Black Horse are acting correctly and the information they have given you is correct.

    Your loans are simply too old. Under the Data Protection Act, no organization is obliged to keep anyone's documents after a set period of time. Your loan was taken out so long ago that hey probably have been shredded i'm afraid. Sometimes it's illegal for a company to keep your information after a set time frame too. It is not mandatory for any company to keep your documents after this legal time frame.

    I genuinely feel you've left it too late. Realistically, you should have queried this at the time or very close to when you took your loan out.

    If your bank doesn't have the information, I would imagine there is very little you can do.
