Faulty GHD Hair Straightners Irons
Comments
-
My wife is on her second pair of the overpriced, under researched hair irons!
The first pair had a fault and she was told to send them back to see if they can be repaired, she decided to purchase a second pair from GHD direct, and threw the old pair in the bin!
Well just over 6 months old and they start playing up just like the first pair, I send them back to GHD who replaced the power cord, 10 months later it’s doing it again and guess what GHD said they were out of warranty!! When I pointed out that they had repaired them under warranty already we should be entitled to a further 12 months as it was the same fault! We are currently trying to get GHD to repair them again after I quoted them the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982.0 -
I advised a friend to send their GHD straighteners back to the manufacturer when they stopped working 18 months after purchase quoting SOGA.
They received a new pair after a couple of weeks, no letter or anything but it would seem the best way to get a result is to just send them back.0 -

Hi,
I know this has happened years ago but i searched and searched for someone to repair my GHDs i called GHD direct and they couldnt be more useless if they tried. They wouldnt commit to repairing my GHDs and said that i would have to pay £10 to have them back even if they were beyond repair as i need to appreciate administration work!!
After not haivng much luck on any suugestion on where to get them repaired i took the plunge and sent them to www.ghdsrepair.co.uk they charge £20 i sent them on the monday and had them back on wednesday all in working order! I was chuffed!
I have had mine 6 years and hope to get a little more time out of them after all we are in a credit crunch0 -

i bought my ghd's in 2002 and i still have them but they did catch fire while i was using them in december! my brother in law has done some clever repair on them so they are still working amazingly. even getting 6 years out of them was amazing value i thought.
he did tell me that the reason they blow up is cos of winding the cable round the straighteners to store them which i did do and it loosens connections, thats why newer models have the swiveling cord.0 -
Hi guys
Been having some problems with GHD recently so looking for some advice.
I have a set of MK3 GHDs I believe. They were bought for me by my Mum and sister as a present for my bday last year in June 08. Obviously as they were a present they were actually bought in advance in May 08.
They purchased them from our hairdresser, at a GHD recommended salon, so they are a legitimate retailer.
I had a handwritten receipt from the salon, which read the salon name, address, GHD Stylers (old style) and the name of my hairdresser plus amount paid.
Unfortunately the stylers stopped working in early May, so I sent them back with my reciept to GHD. Rang a week later as I had heard nothing and got told that they were not able to repair them as they no longer had the parts, but they could offer me a new pair at a discount. I wasn't v. happy with this seen as I hadn't even had them a year yet, but GHD told me they were manufactured in 2005. So at this point I asked her to note on the reciept the fact that the salon had stated on the reciept they were 'old style' ones so they were the last they had in stock.
At this point I was told the reciept had been lost (convienient!) so knowing this would happen I had taken a photocopy - which I asked to fax through to her. She promised to then investigate this with the salon. I rang days later to be told no fax had been recieved (even though my status report said it went through to them 'ok').
At this point she asked me to fax the reciept again, so faxed it over. Rang again days later to be told there was still no fax or copy of reciept on file! By now it is late June, so I rang again and asked if I could e-mail them a scanned copy. Bloke on phone was very helpful and so e-mailled my reciept scan across to him. He was a temp so e-mailled me back to say he had recieved email and attachment ok and was forwarding them on to a girl (he did name her but don't wanna say on here!) on their customer service team.
Customer service my !!!!! That was on Wed this week, and I have heard nothing since... the saga continues and I am REALLY getting to the end of my teather with it. It seems v. unfair that they won't honour a reciept/warranty when I bought from one of their approved retailers.
Any advice would be appreciated as to where to go next!!0 -
I was worried about having to fork out for some more straighteners for my wife (because she could not live without them) when they stopped working consistently. The fact that they worked sometimes said to me that there was a faulty connection so I got the screw driver and took them apart. In the end I tracked the problem to a wire which was coming away from its connections - it wasn't hard to spot as there are only about 5 wires in there. Glad I managed to save the repair cost.0
