we got 2 seperate statements from npower yesterday both dated 17th september. one says we are in credit for £228 and the other says we are in credit for £368 and reduces our fortnightly payments to £28.
so which should i believe? you would think if they sent out an incorrect statement and then realise and send a correct one out that they would include a letter telling us to ignore the incorrect one.

Have you tried contacting the supplier for clarification?

There doesn't seem to be any kind of emergency here! Can you check your account online? Can you email them for an explanation? Can you write to them?

Does one say amended on it? If so, does it say if it replaced previous bills for X?

nothing like that. however i notice on one it shows a meter reading for 30th may which the other does not show and it says a recent meter reading has helped us make your bill more accurate. however that so called recent meter reading on 30th may only came 8 days after a meter reading i did and sent via the website which is shown on both bills. how can another meter reading only 8 days later make such a difference to a statement?
we just feel like we are being scammed.

You need to ask them to be sure, but from what you have said here, its sounds like a replacement bill. Do the start readings appear the same, are the credits all detailed on there, etc? If so, it does sound like an amended bill to me where they have used a more up to date reading.

It seems pretty pointless though. If the new reading is close to yours, all they have achieved is a waste of their own time whilst confusing you.

i have sent an email. all the readings are the same its just one has a reading for 30th may and one doesnt. one also has all our payments listed and one doesnt. while it is likely that the 30th may reading has made the difference i just fail to see how a reading 8 days later can make such a difference. at the moment my thinking is to continue paying the higher payments and if we end up massively in credit they will send us a cheque again like they did in june.

Have they billed on for a further 8 days? If so, the closing reading of the previous bill would be the opening reading for the new one.

Just wondering because if they were replacing a previous bill and billing up to a newer reading, they would still need to include all your payments since the replaced bill is withdrawn and all credits in it would be lost otherwise.
