Has anyone used recyclemysmartphone.com or gadgetxchange.com to recycle a phone?
Options
Having never used either of these two sites, I'm looking to recycle my phone with either of these two sites.
There don't seem to be any reviews on the net, so was wondering if anyone has any experience of using either of these two, or if they know of any good or bad things about them?
Thanks in advance

I have just been scammed by recyclemysmartphone dot com
They don’t have any contact number on their website. I sent my Blackberry 9780 which only had a white screen issue. They received it and they claimed it has liquid damage!
When I demanded my phone back they claimed that according to their terms and conditions (which is no where to be found on their website) they don’t have to give it back to me!
When I argued, they demanded £15 off me! I am going to report this to consumer direct and watchdog.
I have been digging into this this and came across these posts. Meanwhile, I have managed to find some information about these scammers.

Do NOT use Recyclemysmartphone.com. I sent my Blackberry Bold 9780 to them and they confirmed to me that they receievd it. Then they didn't reply at all to my emails about my payment. They just kept my phone without any payment. They don't even have a VALID contact number.0

Also the phone number 01603898250 is INVALID. It is NO LONGER CONNECTED therefore the company is a fraud! Do NOT use them. I have reported them to watchdog.0

Why can you not just sell the handset, these type companies I too often read bad news about them, rather exchange the old handset for live sterling everytime.0 -
In future I would recommend CEX shop.I have used them a few times and you can just go in shop and get offer after they have tested the phone.0

Sorry for not responding to the thread, thought I'd originally subscribed!
Thanks for the heads up on RecycleMySmartphone, found another site with reviews with not one positive experience reported - used GadgetXchange at the time with no problems whatsoever. They gave more than Cex (who I've had very poor experiences with in the past anyway, online though), and pretty much the same as selling on eBay (taking into account their fees).
Hope people have some luck getting something out of RecycleMySmartphone though. I appreciate the recommendation given of not trading with them."Kids respect landlords. I think it's the keys."0 -
I hope my experience helps someone else.
This site is still active and it claims the company is under new ownership "Greencyc Ltd trading as Recycle My Smartphone. The web site lists their address as Unit 8, Long Acre Trading Estate, Aston. Birmingham B7 5JD. Tel: 0121 325 8500
I was foolish enough to use them about two or three weeks ago. I upgraded my daughter's smartphone and so we had her old phone to sell.
The site required name address and telephone details and the EMEI and condition of phone, working/not working, also payment by cheque or direct credit to bank account. It produced an invoice and instructions for sending phone. The first thing that made me suspicious was the quoted price paid was not shown on invoice, rather £0. However, it stated phone would be evaluated over the two days following receipt and then a valuation would be made, the transaction would be completed within 10 days.
I phoned the company multiple times (from Midlands) each time I got an incoherent female voice who asked me to wait while the call was put through. The first time the call was picked up and put down again cutting me off. Subsequent calls ended up put through to an extension where buzzer like noises were made but no one answered.
Convinced it was a scam I searched on line and found this and other threads. That same day I wrote a letter to the company stating they were in breach of contract and demanding return of my property within seven days - this I sent by recorded delivery.
I was unable to trace this company on line although I searched the insolvency register.
Not expecting to get a response the following week I had a telephone call from the company. The man said the company was not trading and I had sent the phone to the wrong address, also that the £0 value showed it was not trading. Never-the-less he said he was sending the phone back to me. The following day it duly arrived. I count myself as very lucky! I would not encourage anyone to use this website!0
