One thing I haven't seen people mention is an additional mobile phone.
I've got a cheap (£12) PAYG Nokia with some prepaid credit on it.
The battery lasts a long time and provides much better standby and talktime than my iPhone.
If I was stranded for a long time this would be very useful to have.

Just bear in mind that if you leave a PAYG phone too long without using it, they cut it off and keep the credit.
Easy solved though, just use it to send your normal phone a text now and then.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

In addition to the items above, I carry a long handled snow brush, which reaches right to the middle of my roof so my car does not suffer the sartorial inelegance of a snowhican:

and a Tesco value shower curtain which doubles as a ground sheet/tarpaulin/something to wrap wet dirty things in. They cost about £1.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Nobody seems to pack a loo roll ... I know bears **** in the woods, but if you have to then you'll be wiping your 4rses on snowflakes.0

A couple of things which live in my boot, year round -
A pair of 'flatties' & then no matter what shoes I'm wearing, I know I'll be able to drive.
An old, empty 5lt vinegar bottle which I fill with water before a long drive or in bad weather.0 -
A pot for peeing in? - you might laugh but I got caught out once :eek:I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Thank you so much to everyone who has replied! Definitely food for thought! Not sure how much I can cram into my boot with the pushchair too so going to go through everyones posts and check what would be applicable for our essential journeys in bad weather (which is mainly the school run or going to get milk/nappies etc for a newborn) but the maximum in bad weather we would go is 1 and a half miles which is the school.Spreading a little Christmas joy all year round :santa2:0
