Tax credit reduced help!

Same for me except they refused to backdate it and said I had missed the deadline so wouldn't get her back on calculation for another year. I thought it was a bit mean considering they can alter circumstances at any time if it means tax credits go down, but refuse to do the same if it means they go up!kelloggs36 wrote: »they assume that you daughter has left school and take her off - they did that to me but I rang them up and told them that she was staying on and they put it back on again
Yet another one of my gripes about TC, I have lots

 You're not the only one with gripes welshcakes. I'm a benefits advisor and normally enjoy my job but I absolutely hate tax credit overpayment queries. I can never get a straight answer from the TCO (Tax Credit Office) about how they've calculated the amounts and therefore can't help my clients as much as I'd like.
If we all got letters from other debt collectors demanding money we'd want it proven that we owed the debt down to the last penny. I think it's appalling that people just have to accept the o/p figures.
Yesterday afternoon I phoned the TCO to query a client's claim. It got sorted to a point but then I was told the whole system would be down for almost a week for some upgrading - oh well that's alright then for this poor person who's been waiting months for payment.
I think every single person who's had a bad experience should bombard their MPs with it.
After all they've a special number to get through to the TCO.
It's this government which brought it in and therefore their own MP's should know exactly what we think of it. If it's an opposition MP then they'll be glad to have some ammunition to throw at Labour. According to Gordon Brown it's been a huge financial boost for families. I just wish he worked with me for a day or two. Sorry for the rant...I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0 -
Hi a friend of mine was in a similar situation. As her son is going into continuing education, she declared this and it appears to have stopped the tax credit reducing. I am not sure however what would happen if your daughter was entitled to a educational maintenance grant - if this would be used as an offset!
I am at the beginning of this process, as will be returning to work after maternity leave in July and I am currently completely confused by what I will or won't be entitled to. At the moment appear to be expected to meet all of the full time nursery costs on my own! (am single parent)
any advice gratefully received:eek:0
