Tax credit reduced help!

Just had a look at my bank account had a shock of my life our tax credit has been reduced by £50.Looking back over our letters from the tax credit people it said it was going to be reduced.
We have five children our eldest has just turn 16,has it been reduced because my daughter has turned 16.But if she is staying on at school do we need to contact them to make them aware of this.Many thanks for anyone who can help me with this.

    Call them up with your accurate figures for the coming year just in case they've over estimated your income. Unfortunately there isn't a lot you can do if all the details they have are right though. Ours is going down by £20 next week. :(

    It won't have been reduced just because she's turned 16 now in the middle of the academic year

    if she's staying in education then call and tell them as you're entitled to it til she's 19 if she stays on.

    You normally get benifit till september, so it can't be for that reason.

    Out of interest - have there been any other changes in your circumstance in the last year that could have affected the tax credits?;
    has your income changed? have you picked up an overpayment they've not yet made you aware of - and they've started its recovery as of april?

    You do need to give them a call around August, as that's when your daughter will come off the claim. Don't worry though, she'll stay on as long as you do tell 'em.
  • Hi coopcooper

    they assume that you daughter has left school and take her off - they did that to me but I rang them up and told them that she was staying on and they put it back on again - but they didn't take it off until August - the notice gave plenty of time for me to notify them.

    A couple of years ago my child tax credits were reduced and when I called them it turned out to be a mistake on their part - they'd got a date of birth wrong. It was soon put right.

    Give them a call and make sure they have all the right details, also tell them your daughter is continuing in full time education now, you can always let them know if she changes her mind.
  • hi madmum,they had done a mistake a couple of years back also for me ,they had said my son had not lived with me.In fact he has been with me since he was born,lol.We had to do appeals then to get our figure right.
    We gave them a ring today and they said there was nothing they can do until maybe wed or thurs due to the computers being updated!
