OS Daily Thread for Tuesday 25th September This is the Daily thread for Monday 25th September 2012. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Light cloud, with sun trying to peek through but very windy and wet underfoot here this morning. DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, there were treats from the tins for those that wanted them. Tonight will be a made up rice dish as I have several bits in the fridge that need using up - will make it up as I go along. Thought there would be more meat left from the roast so was going to use that for dinner tonight but there's not enough so need to find an alternative.

Work wasn't a manic Monday but we think the awful weather made a lot of people stay at home. Wasn't too bad here first thing in the morning although was dark cold and grey but then started raining and the wind got up and then was just raining on and off - those really heavy downpours, so expect to be busy today. We haven't been that badly effected as some areas hope everyone is still in one piece, lots of places had flooding yet again.

Have a good day, stay safe and well x

    Morning everyone :)

My day off today and was looking forward to a little lie in - especially as OH working from home this morning as he has a dentist appt, so no 5.30am alarm. Alas, we got a 45 min lie in before OH got up to log on to work and I went to make him a coffee before (I thought...) going back to bed for a bit.

Not so - we have been having a problem with the overflow from our water tank pouring water all over our patio. It's just a ballcock in the tank getting stuck and OH can fix it in 2 mins (until the next time it gets stuck!) but the problem is, I can't get into out loft so if he is away - which is a LOT - I can't fix it. I want to get a plumber in but he is refusing because the leak stops when he fiddles with the ballcock. That's all very well - out of sight, out of mind - but I CAN'T DO THAT WHEN HE IS NOT HERE! I really think we need a more permanent solution (not sure what - as the ballcock only got replaced a few months ago) but he is refusing to get the plumber out. So weird as he is not at all cheap - if anything he is the exact opposite of MSE - I don't know if it's some misplaced male pride thing?! Male pride would be all very well if he was at home to be the man of the house more than 50% of the time, but he's not :(

Grr...so I am quite frustrated and worried about this, and I'm completely up now. May treat myself to a nap this afternoon if I get enough done.

Got piles of marking to do today, and I also want to spend some time in the kitchen batch cooking for the rest of the week, which is going to be quite busy. Got some laundry to do too (where does it come from?! There are only two of us!)

Anyway sorry for ranting......hope everyone has a lovely Tuesday xx

    Chilly but dry here.

The rain came down very hard here yesterday. But as the afternoon went on it dried up and the sun came out for a bit. Some shower are due here today but more heavy rain is due to come In over night and the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Lunch for me today Is home made pea and ham soup.

Not sure what I'm going to do for dinner tonight. But it will involve chicken.

The twins are back at school today. They have not long been packed off. My wife is also at work today. I have a few jobs around the house to do and a few other things that I wont to get done.

Well I hope that you all have a great day.

    Enjoy:j:j

    Morning all

Not around yesterday as I spent the day organising the foodbank collection from shoppers at a well known supermarket. OH came to help too and we were both freezing and shattered by the time we left.

So OH off reluctantly to work early and I am in bed with the lappie and a cuppa.

Today...? Not a lot. I have some beef stew from the freezer so may make Hairy D**ters pies for tea if I can find my packet of pizza dough mix.

Blue sky here after yesterdays awful weather so will put a load in the washing machine in a minute.

BB hope Maude gets better soon.

Daisiegg good luck with the ballcock.

    Bitsey hope OH hears soon.

Hugs and kind thoughts to all who need them.

    Have a good day all.

Morning, sun is out here!! It's windy but not too cold. Nice change after all that rain yesterday. Got soaked 2 or 3 times.
Today have work to get through, need to hoover and do some washing. Lunch will be a sandwich and dinner will be left overs from the roast at the weekend. Either all chopped up with herbs and baked or whizzed in the blender and made into rissoles.
Is it just me, or does a lot of the fruit and veg opn sale seem tasteless? Bought some rhubarb to make a crumble and there's no real flavour, tomatoes seem to have been like that for ages and some other things too. It may be my taste buds fading with age and the fact that I smoke but I'm sure I used to be able to taste things better than this.
Hope you all have a lovely day and that those with problems of whatever sort, make progress in getting them sorted.

    Morning all,

Dry here atm but due more rain later. Very little os here today, as dd and I are off to portsmouth, she wants to go to primark and start getting some bits for her college trip next year, just t shirts etc, hopefully the will have some in the sale. I will have a look for some xmas bits.

I am going to prepare a curry, so that when get back I just have to shove it in the oven and cook the rice.

Will get dd to hoover through downstairs while I am cooking, then we will be off.

    Have good days all xx

Wild and windy night here. Thought I'd wake to a decimated garden, but wasn't too bad:T

Chilling again today. I am finding it hard to slow down, but I am learning!
Started a jigsaw that I bought in the hospice shop on saturday. It is a basket of flowers, but the edges are all either yellow or brown! Will keep me busy for a while!

Had leftover pork steaks last night, faggots and peas tonight.

Hope you all have a good day, watch out for the wind and rain.
