Hi all,

I have 6 months of an 18 month ADSL contract left with BT. I have just received an email to say that Infinity is now available in my area. Will I be able to upgrade to Infinity without having to pay for the remaining BT contract term or will I have to pay a fee for changing contract before the end of term? Thanks

You can alway upgrade FOC whilst still in minimum term, you will just be charged the new fee and any install charge applying.
Have you considereed Plusnet Fibre instead though-identical service but cheaper?

I was considering this, however between the cab and your house its copper not fibre. If you want true fibre only virgin has it
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Virgin is coax at the last part so they are not full fibre to the home.

You can upgrade to Infinity at any time. Whilst in contract you are likely to pay the full price £18 or £26 and risk missing out on a little bit of discount you will be entitiled to with 3 months left on your term, but the discount really is minimal for Infinity and if you want it now, go for it.

Moving to Plusnet with 6 months left after early termination charges rising recently is not good advice, although their packages are priced competitively.

BT do provide a FTTH service, some areas are getting 200mb-300mb in trials at the moment. But the standard 100mb is available to order on BT.com or by phone if you live in an enabled area.

I was not suggesting moving to Plusnet right now if an ETC is payable, it was intended as a general suggestion.

Thanks, Virgin isn't available where I live.

As I am still contracted into BT, I can't switch at the moment.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I have now instigated the switch to Infinity which hopefully will happen this Friday. I will investigate Plusnet when I am able to switch from BT once this new contract expires.

I've just dumped AOL and changed overe to BT. I enquired about this as infinity is meant to be arriving in my area soon. I was told that I could have ordinary BT broadband installed as and when. When infinity becomes available I would be able to upgrade if I wanted but the contract would renew for another 18 months. So if this is correct there will be no early termination charges but you will be expected to sign up for another 18 months. I was also told that provided I signed up to a 40gb usage limit or more package the upgrade would be automatic and free. Be interesting to see what happens if and when the time comes though.

So do you think that Virgin has fibre "between the cab and your house" then?
