Avoid Sainsbury Breadroll Overcharge

Not really a vent, just something to be aware of at self-checkouts in Sainsbury
If you have a 39p (SEL) self selection breadroll and choose " self selection roll" on the screen menu it automatically charges 45p - an overcharge you may not notice (if you do, call assistant for an over-ride)
To choose the right-priced roll;
I wonder how many 39p rolls people get overcharged for in this way each day?

To choose the right-priced roll;
- Select Q on the menu (how would a customer know that?)
- Select "bakery/bread/rolls" or whatever it says there (can't quite recall)
- Choose your roll from the pictures
- Get charged correct price of 39p

It's 6p. Is it worth it?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Did sainsburys overcharge you or did you overcharge yourself by not selecting the right product?0

Depends how you look at it - it was a self serve roll, which is what I selected on the screenForwandert wrote: »Did sainsburys overcharge you or did you overcharge yourself by not selecting the right product?
However those "in the know" know that not all self serve rolls are included in the choice of "self serve rolls" and need to choose Q option
Worth what? As a percentage its a big difference (6p overcharge on 39p), people rarely buy just one so its not just 6p, it is 6p x the number of rolls bought per yearIt's 6p. Is it worth it?
This is a moneysaving site, so I thought it worth a couple of minutes to tell people, if you'd rather overpay then move along, there's nothing to see hereYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -

they would be selecting from their selection of price codes0 -

Which are the same as the self-service tills I assume. So if it's easy for a customer to get it wrong, perhaps it's just as easy for the till operator to get it wrong. Unless they're given extensive training on selecting the correct bread roll (before they all die of boredom).
I was in Waitrose once being served by someone who was clearly new. She couldn't recognise garlic or avocado, bless her. But she was ever so nicely spoken (Waitrose innit)."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
I do like it when my 3yr old tells the kid on the till what the veggies are...
There are very good reasons that I use Ocado, Tescos staff at the weekend & evenings is one of the main ones..

I wouldn't overpay as I would select the right item. I don't think it's a moneysaving tip to tell people that if they select the 45p bread roll instead of the 39p roll they will be charged 45p.
Plus like I say it's 6p. If 6p causes a problem I would recommend you don't waste money on premium bread rolls. You can get 6 bread rolls for 60p at morrissons. That's a better money saving tip!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Pah, that's no good for folks like me who haven't got a Morrisons on our doorstep. I wonder what point it ceases to become money saving when the saving per roll is offset by the cost of fuel to get there?
Then again, Lidl's is within walking distance for me so I can hardly complain!
