To me the crucial point is whether the employer is paying for this time off or not. It does seem to be a mainly public sector sense of entitlement to get full pay for 6 months or a year.

Yes, but at last they are doing something about tax payers money now and about time too.

I have to say after reading the posts on here it way OTT sending a bandage photo of the toe to a friend and then it was taken to the manager that was bazaar thing to do.

It's not only wrong from a tax perspective. It's pretty tough on colleagues when people are off for months on end and their work still has to be covered.

However, I don't think the OP was out of order, taking a couple of days off to comply with post op guidelines is only sensible. It could take far more time in the long run if she ignores the guidelines.

As for the photos... a bit silly of her and her colleague, but people do do silly things. It's hardly the crime of the century.

  • I think the manager has been a bit tactless but not over-stepped the mark. There has been a bit of sillyness on both sides here.

Probably just chalk it up and move on. Certainly not serious enough to raise a grievance, probably just jealous that you got a bit of extra time off (even though it was for some painful recovery!).
    Thinking critically since 1996....
