Is this appropriate from a manager?

Now you are taking the p!!! You haven't been off an entire day, you sent photos, and a couple of toenails equates to family friendly policies (which is actually unpaid leave)?0

I hope your feet have a swift recovery and I know that toenail surgery can be painfull as my mate had to have a toenail bed removed.
Someone elce I know has been very ill with cancer, they had to have a large operation on their stomach followed by chemo.
Their employer rang up after a week and asked when they would be back in!. The woman was very ill. Some employers are just overzelous sometimes.0 -
Most of the managers where I work challenge us when we call in sick. I'm rarely ill, only take time off when I really have to (proper flu, D&V and so on) and go back as soon as I can, etc. But every time I call in I'm asked 'can you really not get in' or similar. I just roll my eyes and tell them 'no, I really can't'.
I work in the public sector and have contact with ill people of all ages, including babies, so am often exposed to germs. It would also be against protocol and stupid to go to work when I have a potentially communicable illness.
Nonetheless, I just see it as the managers doing their jobs. I really don't think it's unreasonable to be questioned/challenged about staying at home during paid working hours.[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life.

Oh yes. Cancer and chimotherapy being exactly the same thing as ingrowing toenails.0

Me? I didn't send photos to my colleague! Or are you seriously trying to suggest that your surgery on your toenails is the same as treatment for cancer? You have been off A DAY. For toenails. Yes. A bit painful. Maybe worth a few days off. So get a sick note. Stop whinging. Nobody suggested you send photos to your colleague. You did that ll on your own. And they obviously didn't believe you - otherwise why show them to your manager. You made this situation. Deal with it.0 -
There is a reason why statistics for sickness in Public Sector who pay full pay and those who pay Statuatory Sick or Self Employed is higher.
My employer (NHS) have strict regulations regarding sickness and infections but my boss will still question me regarding this. I think they should not have asked but you invited this by posting photos to a colleague, which really is a bizarre thing to do.
I would never mind being questioned at all and find in all honesty the only people who do get questioned are those that take liberties.
I also find it strange that my own children never appear to be ill, whilst some of my colleagues have children who are regularly ill and they need time off. In the last 12 years I have had 2 days from work due to needing parental flexability, whilst others need this per month.0 -

I've gone in to work when I've felt really quite ill with a chest infection and hacking cough; quite obvious I shouldn't be there but still met with hostility when I finally gave in and called in sick. In fact it went around our small office several times because none of us wanted to phone in sick; so kept reinfecting each other.
I'm just saying it's their job and really not a big deal. I think you're being oversensitive. If you're genuinely ill or incapacitated then you can easily reply with 'sorry, I'd come in if I could but I really can't'.
As for coughs etc, it's not my place to judge if you can, can't or shouldn't work with one. The reinfection in your office does sound odd though, healthy people usually develop immunity once they've caught something once. Still, I'm no expert.[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life.

What has happened in your life to make you so bitter and nasty? Your so so sad and lonely.
And so you think cancer and an ingrowing toenail are the same?
Neither sad, nor lonely, and don't need to make stuff up to harvest sympathy from starngers on the internet. Unlike you.0 -

Clearly not. You still haven't explained why ingowing toenails are the same as cancer. Or why you needed to send photos.0 -

I came on here asking whether my manager was overstepping the mark asking whether I should be off work after seeing a picture of my toes bandaged up. I took this to him meaning today and tomorrow after only having it done this morning. Guidelines for this procedure is up to 48 hours rest with feet elevated with no driving for 24-48 hours. Maybe I didn't make this clear enough at the beginning.
And you need to decide whether it is worth taking a grievance out if you feel aggrieved. Or you could just accept that he's going to ask each and every time and deal with it. That's what bosses do, they sometimes say things that drive you a little crazy. It's part of the modern working world.
Although why on earth you actually sent a photo is beyond me...but that's your decision to make.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
