After losing TJ I couldnt go down the rescue route this time. Were were lucky to have a great Vet that gave TJ 4 extra years of life. He had problem after problem and we fought tooth and nail for him, but i just couldnt risk that happening again. I dont think I could cope again, it nearly killed me when we lost him.
Our new puppy has come from a top breeder who breeds for the love of the breed. She was also TJ's groomer for over 7 years.
My Daughter has one of her dogs (he is 4 now)
I didnt think we would even think of another dog, but it was so quiet here, and empty.
I just rang her and asked when there might be puppies. We were lucky. I didnt need to research her as we know her well enough.
I still do my bit for Bichons mainly, but I am always there if asked to help.
Puppy has been for his first Vet visit today and had his first injection. Our trusted lovely Vet checked him over and smiled.
I know my big lad will be looking down on us with a smile, he knows we will never forget him and we will meet again one day.

He will be, the puppies don't replace our babies who have passed but they sure do put the smile back on our faces

Our local FB for sale page does not allow posters to advertise pets for sale or rehoming which I think is a good thing. The mods on our page are red hot about this. Perhaps contact the mods of your local FB sales page and ask them to ban such adverts.0

The buy and sell ones don't but there are specific pet ones :mad:0 -
Oh don't get started on this one,
On one of the facebook pages for my local area. Theres a women who is constantly buying and selling baby rabbits on a weekly basis. Why? Because they won't let her daughter pick them up and cuddle them. The poor things don't get a chance before being carted off to the next home.0 -
unfortunately most of the people looking for a pup want one now, they're not prepared to wait and do research
Hands up, I bred a litter 15 years ago, just about broke even as for the sake of finding great homes I reduced the price for some people - not that there was a problem as the demand for beardies at the time well outstripped the supply. I spent months making sure that my dam and the sire I used were going to have the best chance of having healthy and happy pups. I kept in touch with all 9 homes and selling contract made it clear that if there were any problems they should return the dogs, no matter how old they were. They were not to add to the problems faced by animal shelters (and every dog I've bought has had the same caveat). I had a lady in tears on the phone last month saying her dog had died of cancer and was I still breeding because she wanted another. I contacted a few people and hopefully given her a few leads.
Now I'm looking for a bichon puppy (not a rescue/older dog for a number of reasons) to join the family and it's a nightmare! The number of scams around is shocking and I could spend all day every day telling site owners that they need to take adverts down. And very few people advertise until they are ready to go to homes - very often meaning that you don't get the 8-14 weeks window that is so important for socialising etc. I definitely do not want one from a licensed breeder though, I think the best pups come from hobby breeders who may only have 1 or 2 litters and lavish time and attention on them and raise them in the home surrounded by noise and people, but with relevant health and temperament tests. So I thought I'd post a wanted advert on Gumtree and was told that they don't accept wanted/sale ads for puppies, only for rehoming and rescue dogs. So I guess that's kind of progress, if not particularly helpful for me!
So if anyone knows of a litter or planned litter of bichons, bred in the home, by a breeder who is going to give me a detailed inquisition before they even want to let me see the pups, let alone sell me one, let me know! I was lucky in eventually finding the breeder of my other bichon, after turning down puppies in 4 different litters because I was not happy with the breeding, but unfortunately they won't be having any more litters. She isn't KC reg and hearing of horror stories at my 3 times a week dog training classes I'm rather cynical about the KC Accredited breeder scheme. There must be a better way to match responsible breeders with responsible potential owners.
And talking dogs, this lot need their (in a whisper) W.A.L.K. so I better get off my soapbox.0 -
Why would you not want one from a proper breeder ?? Surely you are not serious. If you defo want a puppy then PLEASE do not fund the pockets of back yard breeders, also some 'in home' breeders are actually a front for puppy farms.
Best thing to do is look for a breed club and get a puppy through that avenue. 9/10 back yard breeders do not have relevant health tests done on their dogs, they do not know their ancestory ( so can't rule out any painful hereditery conditions).
Yes they are not all evil people who neglect the animals but they are breeding for money and money only and not because their pet is a great example of the breed as is the stud so are breeding to produce another line of excellent quality puppies.0 -
My new Bichon baby came to us on Sauturday. His breeder was TJ's groomer for over 7 years, so I can say I know her very well.
She doesnt let her puppies go to just anyone, you have to jump through hoops and some even before you get to see a puppy hair let alone a puppy.
She is has an understanding of Bichons which is second to none, and most of all I trust her.
I wouldnt have got a puppy from anywhere else. He has a top class pedigree and he is a stunning little thing.
Our Vet said he is a lovely chilled out puppy, and gave him a clean bill of health.
After TJ I needed to know where our new puppy came from, not just a "breeder" that pulled the wool over our eyes and almost certainly lied to us.
Dont get me wrong I wouldnt have changed Teej for the world, but he had conditions that shouldnt have happened, thats a bad breeder at fault. One that put money before the dogs welfare. xxRIP TJ. Your baby sounds lovely and you know that he has been cared for from the day of conception and that his parents and their parents and so on have been well cared for too. I was the same with my boy, it was like a Spanish Inquisition the first meeting with the breeders, they weren't rude or abrubt about it but just had to get that bit sorted before I chose a puppy etc, they are always at the other end of the phone too and I have asked them a few things and they give excellent advice.
Logans litter is their first in 7 years so they do not constantly breed, they only breed if they have a b*tch who has excellent qualities, temperament and health scores (hips/elbows) and they find a suitable matched dog with the same qualities to guarantee a litter of puppies that will be a gift to the breed.
I do go on a bit don't I :rotfl:
Just so people know that I am not against buying a puppy (clearly) but only if from a good breeder and not someone who has two or friend has a dog the same breed and they want to make a bit of cash.0
