*sigh* My OH is an idiot!

Daughter's birthday is coming up. We know what we're getting her, it's something she's wanted for a while but hasn't mentioned in ages as she knows money is tight.

OH decides to 'casually chat' to her about this item.

1) OH can't do subtle. He's the type of person whose whispers could be heard in the next town.
2) He never 'casually' chats to her about this kind of thing, if anything he doesn't usually listen to her when she talks about stuff she's seen or she likes.
3) He does this routine EVERY single time there's a birthday or Xmas approaches.

I've told him before to shut his face (nicely of course) but he keeps doing it.

Upshot is daughter now knows what she's getting and OH is really trying to make me believe she still hasn't got a clue when the reality is, it's him that hasn't got a clue.

He spoils things every time just because he doesn't see how his 'casual chats' are obvious. I know he doesn't mean to spoil things but he does.

I'm trying to not be annoyed but I am...so I'm telling you lot. :rotfl:

could you possibly get 2 gifts of equal value in future (rather than one main present) one that he buys, one you get and you don't tell him what you are buying! Then at least there is still a surprise for her.

Must be a man thing - I got in trouble last year by 'having a chat' with my SD. I was trying to tell her subtly that we couldn't get exactly what she wanted, but ended up giving away what she was actually getting. As it turned out, what we got her was 99% what she wanted and she was really pleased with it, but I do remember a full scale row ensued.....

Men are just rubbish at keeping secrets and/or bing subtle?
  • (Wo)man the barracades! Sou westers on Aliasojo - you know you are an ungrateful wretch in every sense for *inserts misunderstood reason here*.

Right, now that's out of the way...:D Yeah, really really annoying! It's like 2 men in my family that just can't do 'telling porkies as part of an innocent ruse': they always put on the 'extra serious face' that's a dead give away:rotfl:

Which is why I'm posting on here.:D

I'm hoping I get it out my system here and I no longer feel the need to kill him.:rotfl:

    It's definitely a man thing.
I have learnt not to confide in OH if one of our offspring does some minor annoying thing - he manages to turn it into WW3 whilst "having a quiet word" and I end up raging with him whilst trying to placate the offspring....:rotfl:

My OH has no concept at all of "surprise presents" for any occasion. I very nearly had no OH at all one Christmas because he thought it was no big deal to start telling a 5 and 6 year old that Santa was actually your parents :mad::mad:. I managed to veer everyone off course before the kids cottoned on, but at that moment in time I could have cheerfully throttled him.

Now I leave it up to him to ask our DD what she wants for her birthday/Christmas/Eid, or he suggests to her something he'd happily buy her. I am in charge of the little surprises (ie I don't tell either of them what I'm buying ;)).

    Ok, you win. :D

I'm feeling slightly calmer now I've been trumped. :D

What the heck is it with blokes?

I'm just waiting on mine 'casually' asking daughter what shop she happened to see this item in. :rotfl:

At least it's not malicious. Try this one for size. Rang DS1's dad to make sure we didn't overlap on presents, he hadn't bought one so I told him what I was getting. Xmas morning DS1 opens his wonderful present from daddy. Xmas afternoon DS1 looks at me rather deflated and says "daddy got me one of these".

Moral of the story is "don't tell the bloke", there's just too much scope for them messing it up - inadvertently or otherwise LOL
