can i ask a question - GirlRacer just out of interest how do you get divorced if you got married in another country? can you do it here or do you have to do it through the country where you got married. Not that intend to get divorced! but I always wondered. It also always worried me slightly that there is no "official" record of us being married here in the UK, only in Mexico, is there any way you can get this registered does anyone know?
When we returned from Oz after our wedding, I called our Registry office to find out what the procedure was. I was told that overseas weddings cannot be registered in the UK, as it would have already been registered in the State where we married. (does that mean that when we are in the UK, my OH is actually my 'boyfriend', as opposed to when we are in Oz, he is my 'husband' ??!! lol )
ETA, oops sorry, didn't see that FF had already answered that one ..!
I am in the future you know...
...9 hours ahead to be exact !:D0 -
yeah I did get the wedding certificate translated into English as well. i just always wondered about that aspect! my husband often jokes that we're not really married at all and we'll find out in like 30 years!
wouldnt it make it really easy for people to be bigamists as no overseas weddings are registered here?!DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

Wow 2 pages of replies, never been so popular lol! :rotfl:
Thanks for the advice -
Need to think about it some more but we are thinking of having in in Europe, greece or cyprus sound really lovely from what people have said. That way we get the lovely beachs and (hopefully) nice weather, but its close enough for key family members to come too (my mum, sis and bro are the only family members who MUST be be there - bro to be best man, sis to be bridesmaid and mum, well cant imagine it without my mum, plus we are hoping she can take our daughters home with her afterwards so we get to have a 'honeymoon' afterwards
)
Dont get me wrong, if my family are really intent on coming, they will, but alot of my family will just use it as an excuse to get drunk and cause trouble! Especially as I have a 'broken' family and some feelings are still raw :rolleyes:
Anyway im waffling lol
Again thanks for th advice, be warned ,i may be pm'ing you!0 -
I got married in Cuba at a sandals resort the wedding is free if you stay for more than 7 nights!
Brilliant day same reasons as you needed a stress free way to do it!
oh and they guarantee your day means no one else will be married in the resort that day xIsn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?0 -
We booked our Las Vegas wedding online- and it was perfect in every way- not tacky at all-it felt just as sincere and meaningful with just the two of us and the photographer as the witness as it would have with a bunch of family waiting for a vastly overpriced meal sitting next to someone they don't know or get along with.
We didn't even throw a party when we came back because the family members we like were too far away and the ones closer to home I don't talk to...:p

ps our wedding certificate is entirely legal in the UK, the actual ceremony only cost $250USD, that was including pictures, video, flowers and a limo there and back.
