Another point, water based paint is not as hard wearing as gloss oil based. That said, silk oil based paint is not as hard either, but I have no I idea how it compares to water based.
Apparently most if not all makers have had problems, though Dulux might have been worst. The MD of the company I used to work for had his entire house painted in Dulux, it went brown, and Dulux paid for a complete repaint ... in Crown paint.

Take a look here at my 5-year update on yellowing of solvent-based vs water-based paints for wood: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4055437
i read the thread and in particular the bit where they say use a quick dry satinwood instead. i would never ever use a quick dry satinwood again. we repainted our bedroom furniture in this. we gave up after 3 coats as it all went yellow and didnt cover properly (even though we primed everything). one coat of the normal drying satinwood has stayed white for over a year now and looks like a brand new bit of furnitureEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. Satinwood is like painting with silk emulsion. Horrid, horrid stuff.
If you want a white spirit based gloss then you need Crown Solo. I've been using it for two years now and never had a "its gone yellow" complaint. BUT as always there is a but. Whether you are a smoker or not if you just key the old paint which is dirty or yellow and then overcoat with a spirit based paint (notwithstanding VOC 2010 which has caused serious problems) then the stain WILL leech through. You have to prep properly. I've discovered a fantastic waterbased gloss just recently. Normally steer away from waterbased as its like applying the stuff with a trowel.
Oh sorry, yes. its Johnstones Aqua. Formulated to apply just like a spirit based gloss and providing an equivalence in shine to spirit based it really is the dogs danglers.

What's wrong with satinwood? I used it and preferred the texture to gloss - more subtle and forgiving of imperfections.Solar install June 2022, Bath
