SWINTON insurance

My son moved into a new build flat in May 2012. I immediately got him to take out contents insurance with Swinton.
After being in the property for 3 months the Council had finally sorted out giving the property a council tax band. At the same time they changed the postcode of the property.
Phoned Swinton to inform them that the property has now been council tax banded and the council has given a new postcode for the property. Man on the phone not helpful at all, just said we will charge you £25.00.
I said no you will not. What is the £25.00 for. He said change of address my dear. If you dont like it, we will charge you £50.00 cancellation fee.
Bl**dy cheek of it.
Does anyone know whether the insurance will be valid as it has changed postcode.

It probably won't be valid unless you pay the £25 charge."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Well i think it is a terrible attitude by the company. My son hasnt moved house, he hasnt changed his address. Its a rip off. They covered the whole year for £49.00 and now want £50.00 to cancel and £25.00 to change two letters of the postcode.
The way i was spoke to on the phone was rude. i will be getting contents cover else where next year.0 -

I wouldn't have told them the postcode had changed. Thats whats cost you as they have technically changed the address.
As long as the rest of the address is correct I don't believe that would have invalidated your insurance. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Its pretty standard for insurance companies to charge for changing details, that's how many of them make there money. Insurance companies are experts are getting out of paying is it worth the risk that if something happens they try and get out of paying mealy because of something wrong with there address0

escortg3 - I'm on your side.
Out of all the insurance companies I've dealt with, Swinton have to be the most unreasonable insurance ever.
I'm having cancellation charges made against me as well even though I cancelled their insurance within 7 days. Every other company I've dealt has handled the process smoothly, but nope, Swinton are going to be difficult and it's time to fight back, really p*ssed off right now!Student loan: Cleared.0 -
Swinton are a pain in the backside. I used them once, years ago, for house insurance. When I used another (cheaper) company the following year, I was subjected to endless phone calls, texts, emails and junk mail, which only ended after a complaint to their head office. I always opt-out of being contacted and I was so annoyed at the constant intrusion from their phone calls whilst at work, I ended up shouting at one of their operators, telling them to leave me alone.
They often come up on comparison websites as the cheapest deal, but I would never use them again. Avoid at all costs!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0
