I assume I will go back to Specsavers and get them to check the glasses. If they have dispensed them incorrectly they will obviously replace them with the correct ones free of charge.
It's my guess that Specsavers will say they have dispensed according to the prescription supplied.

On the other hand if the glasses have been correctly dispensed, and I am still having problems, then the precription from Boots is incorrect.
So is this how the conversation goes...
"Specsavers tell me they have dispensed correctly".
Boots reply "Oh, ok. Then it must be our mistake. Sorry about that. How much do we owe you?"

    Good luck with that.

I do not need a 3rd optician to tell me that.
    I think you do.

You would only get a 3rd party involved as an arbiter if after Boots retest my eyes that they still insist the original prescription is correct.
    That's correct.

In the circumstances I don't think they can say that.
As I said, good luck with that.
  • Thanks for your reply wealdroom and the various comments.

I know it is not going to be easy that is why I have asked for opinion.

Do you think if they have given me the wrong prescription they are legally obliged to cover me for my losses?

Are both pairs wrong? or is it just the distance or reading ones?

Have you noticed a marked difference in this prescription, compared to your existing prescription?

The reason why I am asking this is I also have a very strong and complex prescription - -10 distance with a +2 on reading ( I have very bad astigmatism in both eyes )

Without fail, every time I buy glasses, I go through approx 2 weeks of headaches and eye strain until I get used to them. I am 46, I found my last prescription was a lot different than my last one, was told my eyes are now changing due to age and things should settle down from now on.

IMO, if I were in your situation, I would go to a third party for another eye test and ask him to check it against the one boots did and also the glasses supplied by specsavers, as another poster has already suggested. Getting wound up over money is of no use when it is your eyes which are on the block. If it is found that one of them has cocked up, tell them you want paying back for the 3rd eye test.

IMO I would put it down to Specsavers being at fault. I won't use them now after supplying carp product in the past, Boots, I have never had an issue with. I now use an independant opticians as they dealt better with me for my last glasses and the lenses were specially made in Japan for me, ultra lightweight , ultra thin but cost me £400 for the lenses alone. Best glasses I have ever had.

Next thing for me is a Cataract op as have one starting in my left eye !

I also have a strong prescription, and always use my High St optician cos they always give me great glasses (even if they aren't cheap).

Getting good eye tests, nice glasses and good corrected vision is too important to leave to chance.

distance are definately wrong as slightly out of focus. Not sure about the readers, they feel strong, perhaps a little too strong.
  • You need to go back to boots first of all and ask them for a recheck. Take the glasses you had made up at specsavers so they can check the prescription is correct to original test.
If the outcome of the recheck is different to original test, it will be up to boots to put this right and they will put the new lenses into the frames you have.

Of course, there is another possibility. The prescription could be correct and the glasses could be correctly made to that prescription, but the dispensing (e.g. lens type and positioning) may be the cause. I'd go back to the original optician for a recheck 1st, but be prepared to pay if it is not the prescription at fault.

Definitely a good example of why it is best to have the eye exam in the same place as you order the glasses.

It will be extremely difficult to prove this even if a third optican is involved it is their professional opinion(s) v another professional opinon.

Most problems are due to dispensing errors rather than refraction errors.

As you have paid the monies to specsavers it will be up to them to sort it out. If not you always have their no quibble guarntee.

I would go to speccies who should retest you and take it from there.

From expereince boots will say is is a dispensing error speccies will say is is a testing error.

I have been asked to given 2nd and 3rd opinions lots of times and 90% is due to inapproriate dispensing , communication or inappropriate frame choice.
  • Last year i went to specsavers to renew my glasses , at the eye test stage I pointed out I was unsure of the prscription as I felt I could not see properly out of my right eye but they just poo pooed it and said it would be fine ....you can see with both eyes cant you ? I was told.
When I picked the glasses up they I found them unusable , the right yee was totally blurred on the intermediate glasses and the bi focals the near side part was ok ish but I could not use the top , distance part to drive , when i complained they retested my eyes and told me no they were fine and that they had fulfilled their job so to speak.
So i have had a year where I can not see well to drive as I have no suitable glasses and could barely read the laptop screen.

Stupidly enough i went back for my eye test this year with my useless glasses and told them exactly what the problem was with them, they confidently told me we will sort this out dont you worry .
well again in the eye test a lot of effort was put in to getting my left eye right but I had this same running arguement about my right eye ....Can you see the black dots ....welll they arent black they are red green and b;ack and very blurred .....dont worry just tell me is it bette with lens 1 or lens 2 no its not with either ....ok then 3 or 4 ....still i could see no black dots and she said the same as last time ....welll you can see with both eyes together cant you ....go and choose some frames , so i chose frames and a week later picked up 3 pairs of glasses I CANNOT use and in the distance ones .....I can see road signs when I am standing next to them but not in the car ....Great!!!!
