Direct Debit - EDF

Hope this is the right forum for this...?
I'm having a problem with my Co Op online bank a/c.
When I was an EDF energy I set up a direct debit through my Co Op bank, to pay them every month. That was fine, no problems, all went smoothly for 2 years..
Then, earlier this year (May) I switched energy suppliers to Co Op energy. and as per usual set up a direct debit to now pay Co Op monthly. I had my final settlement bill from EDF. paid it, and my switch went through smoothly. I cancelled my dd to EDF
So far so good.
My dd payment to Co Op energy come out on time. No problem.
BUT, even though my dd to EDF is cancelled they keep submitting it for payment. I phoned the Co Op bank and asked them why it appears on my statement that EDF are still being paid a dd even though it was cancelled? They told me not to worry, as the money comes out in the morning but is replaced each night, so I don't actually pay them anything.
I called EDF and asked why they keep submitting a dd for payment? they said it's a quirk of the system but it will stop eventually.

Now, 4 months later it's still going on! But where as it used to be monthly, I'm getting a dd from EDF weekly, now!
I have complained to the Co Op, they say it's EDF's fault. I complained to EDF they say 'it's a quirk' but it still keeps happening.

Now, I realise i'm not actually losing any money but it is annoying, and I'm fearful that one day when the money is temporary missing then another payment will bounce or I will be unable to draw the amount of money i need from a cashpoint.
I appreciate any advice, please.

Did you complain "properly" (i.e. strictly in accordance with the Edf complaints procedure)? If so and the problem remains 8 weeks after you first complained you are entitled to ask the Energy Ombudsman to investigate the matter. That process is cost free to you but not cost free to Edf, so a "no-brainer".

I don't disbelieve what you say about continuing DD collections but I am reluctant to believe they would continue at the conclusion of a "properly" conducted complaint. IMO the "quirk" explanation is "inventive rubbish". I conclude you haven't complained "properly".

This is really an Edf issue and might be better in the Gas & Electricity forum http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=13
