Ubuntu is very good, However it has problems with built in "Wifi", or at least it did when I used it on my computer.0

using Ubuntu here too on a laptop with the same chipset as you.
Had to do some extra work to get the wireless working.
There are a set of pages that have laptops tested with Ubuntu, so might be worth having a look at that first.
I'll try and dig out the link.
Found it.. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
I'm a Mandriva/Mandrake boy myself. I'll have to have some "hit it off" time with ubunto soon.0

Another vote for Ubuntu with KDE desktop added on.
I too had issues with my wifi card (D-Link DLW-G650+) but it now works without any problems after adding the following:
options acx firmware_ver=1.2.1.34
to /etc/modprobe.d/options0 -
Thnaks for you replies guys! my dell latitude 620 laptop has a intel pro 2200bg wireless and it looks like ubuntu will have a problem with Ubuntu but I guess I will have to give it a go and see what happens. Is there any distribution of linux which will work with this card straight off that anyone knows about?0

Ubuntu is your best bet.0

SUSE. DEFINITE. Comes loaded with everything.
And if you don't play any games. You will not need windows.0 -
Haven't used much recently but I would go for Ubuntu.
If you pm me your address I can send you a set of Ubuntu 5.1 - Live CD and Install CD to try.
Live CD you could just pop it in your cd drive and it will load Ubuntu without installing on your system. Shut down your pc and reboot it without the CD it will bring back your normal "windoze"
Have fun!0 -
6.06 is the best for newbies to linux, they send you free CD's as well for 6.060
