I am reasonably computer literate....used to use Unix a long time ago.. I am looking to install Linux and was wondering which one is the best one for internet browsing and realtively user friendly??? There seem to be so many distributions I am confused.n My laptop has a Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG card and a celeron M 1.7Ghz processor.

Ubuntu or SUSE.
Or possibly PCLinuxOS. I prefer Ubuntu of the bunch. Easy to use and a great community (better than the others) around it."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Hi
I recommend Ubuntu too.
You can download version 6.10 and burn your own disc.
Download from here:-

Instructions for burning a Ubuntu disc are here:-

Your computer spec is adequate for Ubuntu but you may need help to set up your wireless internet.
There's lots of help at the Ubuntu forum here:-

Good luck

If you are looking for an alternative, Dreamlinux is very nice. Based onf XFCE and looks lovely, especially useful for older machines where its not as hungry as Ubuntu.

For me it's Mandriva 2007 Free, as K/Ubuntu wouldn't install (it couldn't see any partitions on my SATA drives - even the Linux file system formatted ones), but the former installed beautifully & just worked with my NTL Internet connection/cable modem with no input from me except choosing a few options during the main install. I've just got Xubuntu (which is a version of Ubuntu for people with rubbish computers) and I love it! It's so easy to use, and comes with Firefox preinstalled.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209
