Phones4u upgrade/JUMP

I stupidly took out a contract with 3 a few months for a iPhone 3Gs. I can't get signal anywhere. At home isn't unusual as we live in the middle of nowhere (the only network that gets a real signal near here is Vodafone) but it's very week when i'm in town. Only get a proper signal when i'm in a major city which isn't good. Plus the phone is really outdated now- especially came to find this when I couldn't seem to download iOS6 onto it.
I have been doing some research- and have found out about Phones4u "JUMP". What I understand is they cancel your contract, and you take out another contract AND also pay a monthly amount for the phone you get?
I might be miles off the mark so if someone can help me? I really don't have £200 or whatever 3 quoted me to opt out of this contract!

As you've had the contratc for a few months now it might not work but at least try to have your 3 contract cancelled as it doesn't work at your home address.
I should warn you to read carefully any arrangement with Phones4u that looks too good to be true. I've been stung by their sharp practice in the past and even if the Jump thing is genuine they'll be making a profit somewhere - which means you're unlikely to save any money.0 -
You can ask '3' to give you a home signal booster working through your broadband connection.
Re the JUMP, my understanding is that it's some type of contract that you have to take originally, not in the middle/start of some other contract, that gives you some extra flexibility (at extra cost I'd expect).0 -
as grumbler says looks like only new contracts can be a jump ne not midway
JUMP simply takes a traditional contract and splits this into two separate agreements. You pay one monthly amount for the handset and services provided by JUMP and a separate monthly amount for the network airtime agreement. This provides you with the ultimate flexibility when it comes to changing your handset. Although both agreements have 24 month terms, you can upgrade your JUMP agreement any time after 6 months from the contract start date. The network airtime agreement remains unaffected by your JUMP upgrade.
With a traditional contract you would have 3 options if you wanted to change your phone as detailed above, however, as you are paying for cost of the phone to JUMP, if you wanted to change your phone after 6 months, then you can within a few easy steps.
1- Contact JUMP and they will work out:
• How much is outstanding on your current agreement
• What your current handset is worth should you wish to trade it in
2- Agree on what phone you want and JUMP will work out how much you will have to pay every month, like you did when you purchased your original JUMP handset. (Trading in your current handset will reduce this amount)
3- If you are happy, JUMP arrange with the selected Phone4u store to take your current phone in for Trade In and provide you with your new phone
This service is available at all Phones 4u Retail stores (Not currently available on the Phones4u.co.uk website). If you need to locate your nearest store, then click here

Thank you for the help!
Do you have to trade your phone in? Just wondering because if I can get more money from envirophone/eBay then i'd rather sell to them obviously.0 -
Why would you have to trade your phone in and why do you want to sell it? What are you going to do with the remaining 15/21 months of your current contract?0

What ever you decide to do, get "3" to unlock the phone first. A network unlock makes it at least more saleable.
Then get PAYG SIMs for the most likely networks where you are. Generally o2 and Vodafone have the best coverage in rural areas but sitefinder or other experience should confirm this.
Put your 3 SIM in something else (unlocked) and try the PAYG SIM on your iPhone 3GS to determine if it is the network or the phone.
I've found smartphones less sensitive than my old Nokia so if your iPhone doesn't work well that could be the reason. Otherwise you might be comparing 2G reception (OK with calls but rather slow with Data) with what you expect from a smartphone.
You are basically stuck with paying the contract for the term but you could use it in a different phone.
I don't think the 3GS is a bad phone, you paid less than you would have for a newer iPhone and at leat it takes "normal" SIMS so if you get something else there is every chance it will fit !0 -
DO NOT DO IT!!!
I am signed up to this scam...
They say after 6 months u can upgrade free......
After 13 months I finally managed to get through
(after many attempts and nearly an hour on hold)
I was told not only am i being charged around £20pcm by Orange but am paying £24.99pcm to Jump4u but if I want to upgrade they will trade my Samsung S3 (to cover a cost of £180.00)
but my bill will also go up to £35.00pcm for the next 24 months so
£10.00 Insurance
£35.00 Jump4u
£20.00 Orange x 24 = £1,560.00
Guess what.....
I don't want to do that so as a result I have a further £604.89p to pay on top of the £714.87p I have already paid until I can get away from them.
Hard to believe but a Samsung S3 has actually cost me.....
£1,319.76p!!!!!!
I don't even remember anything about this when I got my contract if I had been informed properly I never would have agreed to this EVER.
I don't advise anyone do it!
IT IS A SCAM!!!!0 -
