Morning all, we are back from the docs this morning.
The doc saw it, and I explained that her father side all have it and are all disabled with knee problems, and so the doc said to her 'well, looks like you can tell your dad that his family are to blame for this' (OMG, she seriously said that to a 9 year old!!!! and DD repeated it in the car and I said you must not say it to them as they are disabled the problems are that bad).
Anyhow, she has been referred to childrens physio and she has said that if they think she needs it she will then be referred on to see Orthopedics by the physio department. She also said she had never had to refer anyone to the childrens physio department before..... so that all looks promising!!
Interestingly, she had my daughter notes on the computer and in 2007 I took her to the doctors for hip pain - but I cannot remember that at all and they had not typed the notes up on it so I am not sure if the 2 things are related.
So it looks like we have to wait to see physio before we get any real idea, but things are in motion now and we will move forward from there.0 -
glad to hear you have some answers now, it can be so upsetting hearing hurtful comments about your children
you're a brilliant mum don't worry about that woman's comments, she obviously was too ignorant to consider that your dd may have had other issues0 -

I cannot get to the bottom of why she says this but no amount of praising her for anything is of any benefit. She can make these meticulous and intricate little things with Fimo but then turn around and throw them at me and say they are rubbish while I am saying how wonderful they are. We have lots of things up and around the house that she has mad but then in the next breath she is saying how rubbish she is and that she is no good at anything.
However, no child can be good at 'everything' and I am not going to raise her expectations to be the best at everything as life is not like that and I'll be doing her more harm than good. I tell her that while some people are brilliant at one thing, they will not be good at other things and what matters is being the best she can be. However, that is not good enough and she still puts herself down and has a stroppy fit over it. I am not sure what one thing she wants to be good at but is not, I wonder now if it because of the issue with not being able to run/cycle/dress properly which is at the root of these issues.
After school parent evenings he would argue that they were only saying he was bright / good at the subject, and that he wasn't really. He could never say WHY they would say he was good if he wasn't.
He was also a perfectionist, and if he wasn't happy with something he'd rather screw it up than keep it. Didn't like me saying I liked it / thought he was brilliant etc.
He is MUCH better now, and has learned to collaborate with others to cover the things he's not so good at. Proud Mummy Moment? For the second year in a row, he has a game in the Indie Games Arcade at Eurogamer Expo! This one's a joint effort.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Sounds like this is a medical issue and that OP is on their way to getting it sorted, which is good.
Just a thought - if core strength is an issue, in addition to pilates which someone has already mentioned, riding may help? Also helps co-ordination. Skating would also strengthen core, glutes etc.0 -
Hi
Have a look at this http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Charcot-Marie-Tooth-disease/Pages/Introduction.aspx
It might not be related at all, but my daughter went years with running, jumping balancing issues and it was a chance meeting with a neurologist that realised she had this. I have it too and never realised.
It is a genetic condition, so just with the family history I thought it was mentioning.

Hi everyone, just had a random thought to come back and update the thread following my daughters physio appointment.
They found that my daughters femur is twisted so when she walks the legs kind of go over each other (if that makes sense) rather than walking in a straight line, they think that the problem is actually with her hips and not her knees. Her ankles/feet also tip down and that is why her legs are splayed and all of this makes her muscles all out of line so they are not working properly.
Also found out that she has hypermobility and this is how she has managed to get to this age without it being too much of an issue but they said I did the right thing in bringing her to them while it can be sorted now. It was really very interesting.
She is going to be referred to a youth physio class which is lots of exercises to music which are geared towards children.
She also has to see a different physio and a podiatrist (?) but she might not see them, the lady said she was not sure if funding has been cut for it, to get some special insoles for shoes and trainers and this will lift the foot.
So lots and lots to deal with but they did say that they think the problem is with her hips and the physio we need to see next time specialises in hips, legs and feet.
Wow, there was lots to take in but glad to know that it is all on it;s way to being sorted.0 -
Thanks for updating, glad you have a firm diagnosis and a programme planned. Hopefully your daughter will make some new friends at the youth physiotherapy! :jDeclutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
