Mate of mine just came in. He's advertised his car in a couple of local rags and gumtree. A fellah emailed him last week saying he'd take his word for the description of the car and needed it for work and would send him a cheque.Value was going to be £900 for the car plus 20 quid the guy offered for taking his word by mail.
Bloke then emailed him a couple of days to see if the cheque had arrived. It arrived today. A bankers draft from an irish bank for £3000. It arrived by airmail from togolaise!!!
Apparently once the money is cleared my mate is to email him so he can organise for the car to be collected.
Sounds like a scam of some description to me but no idea what the angle would be here. Any ideas???
Total scam, we deal with a lot of jobs like this in my office. The man will ask for his "change" to be sent to him by your friend, then the original bankers will be reversed and your friend will be out of pocket.0 -
Sorry if its already been mentioned but i havent been keeping up to date on this thread but the martin lewis money show starts tonight at 7.30 on itv.0

I overheard one say 3 for 2 offers and they were bagging up a sample of certain items, one of which I noticed was Rocky bars (trigger for batteries). It could just be updating SELs but I felt as though they knew something, plus there were four security staff there and I've never seen more than two before. Too anxious to use an apg voucher so went to another store, ....
I cashed in an £18 APG at B3dm1ns3r today. It was accepted without comment or fuss.0 -

I would love to help you, but it sounds like you may need to get back to base and gen up a bit more. It is very difficult to say what to do because it entirely depends on what shopping you want - there isn't a "right" direction as such. If you want a shortcut tonight, just flick back through the thread and look at the shops that other people have posted and pick one that is the closest match to the items you would want. Henlans posted a few successful completed shops a short while ago - have a peek at these maybe?

I remember a couple of years ago that airlines were considering actually using the combined weight of the passenger and luggage rather than just luggage.
It does cost more to transport an overweight person and their luggage than it does to transport a normal sized person and their luggage. I for one am in favour of doing this, but it would be so difficult to implement it that I think they backed off it.
I would never consider it fair to charge extra for the luggage required for disabled people, but for the most part a fat person can lose weight, a disabled person generally cannot change that fact. If a fat person has medical reasons for the extra weight then they would be able to prove that and be excused from the extra charges.
There was a large person on our Cuba flights. Every time he went to the loo he blocked the aisle and caused ridiculous tailbacks.
Now I am running off to avoid the missiles about to be thrown in my direction.
I agree with you about this in principle, but it does make it a bit unfair on blokes* though. I am overweight for a woman, but still weigh far less than my ex who at nearly 6' 5" could never compete weight-wise with women and would therefore suffer a luggage penalty. Would all the tall men (and women) of a "normal" weight for their height have to pay extra because of their tall genes?
And taller than average women
It's only a game
