Can I get the Halifax Clarity Card on Poor / No credit History

Hi I am new to the UK with a full time job and just completing 1 year in the UK next month. I want to apply for the Halifax Clarity Card (or Clarity Rewards) as it is best for spending overseas.. I have a credit rating of 2/5 on Noddle. (714 on Experian i.e. Poor :-( ) with 1 current account and 1 credit card opened in march.
Its primarily because of having not spent years in this country..

I want to understand will it be worth trying to apply for the Halifax Card with this Credit Rating and risk a search being recorded .. Or I better apply for the Aqua Credit card which I guess I will be able to get issued easily... I do not mind a higher interest rate as I will pay off the balances without fail..

I wonder whether Halifax will accept the application at all... Will they have any basic thresholds for acceptance ? They have not listed any of such criterias on the site..

    1) ignore the scores.

    2) only thing against you is they normally like to see address history for at least 3 years

    3) your salary might go against you, depends what you earn, but I would worry more that point 2 will be your downfall.

    4) you say you already have a credit card, your debt on it and if you have missed any payments or made them late hasn't been mentioned.

I'd go for the Aqua if I were you.

Though also try and open a Halifax Reward account. Transfer £1000 in and out every month and you'll get £5 (can go in and out on the same day) plus you'll be building a history with Halifax. I got rejected initially, then I applied again after I'd opened and maintained a current account with them for about 10 months and got an instant acceptance.
  • IMO you stand no chance at all to get the Halifax card.
You have not been in the UK long enough.
  • I pay my other card in full each month since I have got it.
I have applied for the Aqua Card Now, but got a reply- we will get in touch with you in 10 days.. Don't know if this would be accepted or not. Halifax is long way to go it seems..

After waiting more than the 10 days i found out that Aqua has closed my application without giving any decision.. :-( stating I missed some info in the application which I don't think I did. On top of that, they have done a search on my credit file (noddle) as ''HBOS (Ml) HBOS Csp (Ml) Anti-Money Laundering" [While their site says they do not leave a foot print on your credit file] Will this be treated as an application for credit and degrade my chances of getting another credit card elsewhere? Will it be wise to Apply again for the same Aqua card ? I have a decent salary and paid back my current credit card in full every month ..

The search is anti money laundering checks only, it isn't a footprint and other lenders won't see it.

Maybe try applying by phone so they can ask you for info there and then if they need it?
  • Hi All I got selected for Aqua Rewards Credit card after applying second time ... with 500 credit limit (provisional)... And I also applied for Halifax Credit card and surprisingly I got selected for that one as well with a big credit limit of 6800(Provisional). The credit rating system of the banks surprises me..!! However I am happy...
