Should I?
EDIT: 20% off tonite with SEPT20OFF -10% Topcashback.
Don't think you'll get CashBack, so £320.
Of course you can by it and if you change your mind later, you can refuse delivery or send it back within seven working days.
Doesn't excite me, but YMMV.0 -
Trying to invoke crisis recovery (never done this before). Not sure if its possible...0

Are you using floppy or flash drive? Are you able to follow the instructions? Have you used my ROM?
I'm trying to cut down on my workload these days.0 -
Flash drive. Don't worry - I'm not panicking - using gfs and I have a caddy for the hard drive. So I'll look at it in slower time... this week.
Will get back to you if I have a serious question.0 -
Ok, I have a little time, as I've finished my work. So I'll look into it.0

Will try a motherboard repair myself if they're not stupidly expensive.
It probably needs the GPU or northbridge chip reflowing. It isn't something you can do yourself.0 -

I don't agree. It would still boot if there was a problem with the GPU. But I am concerned that it died whilst in operation.0 -

The Toshiba BIOS is an exe run from Windows so no use to me. How is the renamed ROM derived? Tried this on a USB stick. Not a dicky bird with various key combos.
I'm stripping down. Will examine fan (although I ws monitoring temps and kept fan clean). Guess its the mboard. What's best? New motherboard or get somebody to try to repair it?
EDIt: This for £280 (after voucher and quaidco). And 2 years warranty. Vs. £100 new motherboard and fingers crossed it'll work. http://h20386.www2.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=ECC_BUNDLE_3594230&opt=&sel=PCNB&lay=uk0 -

It's the ROM file from the (self extracting) .exe. I just renamed it for recovery.
Was the USB drive formatted with FAT?
I'm guessing that you did not use a Crisis disc. As far as I know, Toshiba have disabled some features when it comes to BIOS recovery. So you needed to follow the first set of instructions(post #4).
The 'alternative' was unlikely to work, but was worth trying as it was more simple.
So, did you use the Crisis recovery? 268076.exe0
