Dead Toshiba L300D

Oh well its lasted a few years. Died on me while playing an mp3 (I wasn't touching anything!) Checked the usual - no disk access, took out battery, held power button, took out memory et al. Doesn't start BIOS hence no chance of booting off CD.

All I have is power lights and fan. The wifi light blinks twice and FN key works (never noticed this before but there's a light for the FN key). Could the BIOS be broken? Can it be reflashed?

Will try a motherboard repair myself if they're not stupidly expensive.

Take it you did swap out the hard drive too?

I'm looking at the hard drive via a different computer; however will try a spare drive just in case...
EDIT: not a flicker (no hard disk lights/activity).

You can attempt a BIOS recovery. Full product details?

    Details here

If you need help, I can take a look in later.

Is this a likely problem? Never touched the BIOS before.

Suggest you look on Youtube on how to disassemble Toshiba L300D, and check the fan is working ok, and that the CPU cooler is connected properly. A BIOS failure is unlikely if you have not been trying to flash it, more likely is a cooling failure which is why you are getting no response.

Don't think its a cooling issue. Have been monitoring that for a while due to previous "warmness" and have a laptop cooler...

And yesterday the BIOS was working, same goes for the Cooling.
Toshiba make damn good laptops, I see lots for repair and the oldest ones are nearly always the Toshibas - the other makes died long ago. (leveno is another exception)

If it isn't posting at all, it is what I would do.

My ACER has done this two or maybe three times. A BIOS recovery did the trick each time.
