Next door's kitten is a halfwit

Detached houses and not sited in a row so next door is along and down iyswim.
Large gardens, loads of trees and bushes.
Next door's kitten seems to prefer my garden despite us having a dog.
I've just spent ages watching it 'hunt' nothing.
It sits in the middle of the garden licking itself then it gets up and prowls around before going into 'low slung' hunt mode and creeping slowly across the garden. It will get so far then will just kinda leap on the grass and roll over. :rotfl:
Our dog watches it warily and I suspect his natural instinct is to chase the thing but a) we wont allow him to and b) I think he's secretly a bit scared.
I'd quite like it if the two of them were pals. Can I do anything to make this so? The kitten seems unafraid and comes quite close before running off again.
The pair of them had a Mexican stand off the other night and just stared at each other for ages before I broke the spell and made mutt go and do what he was out there to do.

Strange...I instantly thought of Dizz. You'd think they could be related in some way.
(checks inside of bedsheets for presents of crunchies or paintbrushes - which are his most favourite toy of all time)
There's no reason why the dog and cat can't be mates.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

One of my cats is a halfwit too - and he has the habit of catching slugs for me as well. His sister catches flies, and he can't, so he moved onto something easier.
However, he is best friends with a large number of dogs, whether they like it or not. My sisters daft lab is the cats best friend, the dog is terrified of the cat, but the cat rolls about on the dog, and cuddles up next to him every time he lies down. It's very funny to watch, as the dog is too scared to move quickly, so tries to sidle across the floor on his belly, with the cat following!0 -
I had a real fright a few weeks ago, are you sitting comfortably
I heard the familiar howls of cats meeting up one dark night, so ran outside to protect my Priscilla... I shoo'ed the other larger, scary cat away and my princess ran under the car!
I crouched down and she was huddled under the rusty exhaust pipe.. I saw a glint on her flank... oh my god.. has she been fighting? I ran in the house and retrieved my torch, Priscilla was in the same position, obviously in shock! Yes, her insides were poking through her furr. I was shaking, hysterical, crying....
I telephoned my friend who lived 6 miles away (it was about half 10 at night), she came bounding over. I had managed to get my baby-boo in the house at this point. I explained that she want 'talking' to me as she is in pain, and the lack of blood is because of the area and she hasnt an artery there... She sent me upstairs for a towel, so she could look at her, and when I came down, she was morose and said I need to call the vet.
I was frantically searching for a local vet when Priscilla skipped (to me, she hobbled) upstairs to use the loo, when my friend shouted "ITS DROPPED OFF!!"
I ran to look, and screamed....... It was a SLUG!
Anyway, we live to fight another day.. And I think I am the halfwit!!!0 -
My two young'uns used to catch earthworms when I first got them, I would wake up in the morning and the house was littered with them, I even stepped on one getting out of bed once , some were alive and some dead, I'd rescue the live ones only to find them deposited back again five minutes later.
They then moved on to frogs, all dead by the time I found them
but haven't had anything for a couple of months, hopefully its all over, hmm doubt it. "You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -

When I first got my cats years ago, one used to "catch" worms and drop them in through the cat flap...I'd get home from work and either find a pile of heaving worms or dried up dead worms on the mat!
She still can't hunt...manages to play with and kill the odd spider but mostly she runs away!Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

Just read your post.
Frogs was another that my cat used to catch. I like frogs so live ones were fine with me until...
... a live one appeared in my handbag. It wasn't until I got to work, opened my bag and the frog shot out of my bag, and caused mass hysteria in the office and me running around with a plastic cup trying to catch the darned thing...:rotfl:Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free
