I Want To Do A Fitness Course But Don't Know Where To Start!

I know this is totally the wrong board for this but sod it! :p

I want to go back to school  to do a course about fitness/health etc but I honestly don't have a clue where to start or where to look! :undecided

Anyone have any knowledge of the education system or anything that could point me in the right direction? Thank you. :)

Absolutely no idea at all but you could start by logging onto or contacting your local college. If there is nothing in their prospectus they usually have career advisers that could point you in the right direction. I'm 35 and still in school (part-time) can't cope with my brain going to mush. Have done nearly every course under the sun but not health and fitness!!!!

I was a lazy sod but I think I'm half bright! Sports science is the area I like the sound of. I think!

Well, fitness and health is quite a big field - can you be more specific as to what you're interested in?

To become a personal trainer/gym instructor, you can try the YMCA - their courses are a little expensive but I hear that the certification is quite well respected.

There are also lots of adult education colleges out there that offer more courses than you can imagine eg. complementary therapy like holistic massage, reflexology, reiki and aromatherapy. I got my qualification as a holistic massage therapist after a 5 month ITEC course in one such college, by attending classes one day a week.
  • Can you do full time or are you looking for an evening course?

Well thats just it! I'm not too sure!

I don't really harbour any thoughts of being PT but I would like to know how all the muscles work, work outs, diet etc but also the science side behind it! I don't know how in depth a course to be a PT is!

Have you had a look at the type of course the OU offer? Might be something of interest there?
