Best Sat Nav or Sat App

It is silly to ask which is BEST, there are plenty of adequate ones already though, TT, Sygic and even Navfree. If you have plenty of data allowance then google navigation is good, I wouldn't bother with iOS6 maps as there is plenty of reported errors , questioning if it is actually fit for purpose.0

I watched Fifth Gear a couple of nights ago in which they tested a £50 Binatone, a £100 Garmin and a £300 TomTom.
The first test was of the Binatone and the tester was surprised at how good it was. The Garmin didn't seem to be worth double the Binatone. The TomTom was good but possibly only because the test was performed in London and it used the Live Services traffic feature which costs £47.50 extra per year.
So if you don't drive much in London or large cities then get the Binatone. The man without a signature.0 -
I was using NavFree app yesterday in London & I wasn't impressed. I think the stand alone unit is going to be best for my needs, doing some research at the moment and have just nocitced one by RAC (5000 UK) from Argos & is a decent price.0

Navfree is excellent for iPhone and its........free.
Edit- just seen you don't like it. It works pretty well in the Midlands where I am, much better than my TomTom One which is very flakey, but each to their own. If you use a satnav regularly, a stand alone is probably better as using the app kills your phone battery life.0 -
I used NavFree covering nearly 4oo miles yesterday & I can't see that! That Binatone one looks good.0

Google Maps / Navigation.
Built in, always up to date, live traffic, and is free.NeverEnough wrote: »If you use a satnav regularly, a stand alone is probably better as using the app kills your phone battery life.
So buy a spare battery and/or plug it in.0 -
I've got a Tom Tom sat nav that I use in the car, and it's pretty good.
The battery life is rubbish though, so it always has to be plugged in.
I've used NavFree on the iPhone whilst on foot in towns, and it's been pretty good, but painfully slow.0 -
The latest TomTom Start models are very good (no unnecessary bluetooth, etc.), and you have a selection of 4", 5" and 6" screens and they start from around £100 if you shop around. And don't worry about map updates, my wife's TT is five years old and she's yet to find a new street/suburb that's not on the map. It is usually only the speed limits out of date.
I also have TT app on my iPhone and it's great (except for small and shiny screen)."Retail is for suckers"
