OS Daily Thread for Sunday 23rd September 2012

Options
Os daily 23 Sept 2012 This is the Daily thread for Saturday 22 September 2012. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

  • Morning all

Is everyone else having a lie in?! I was wide awake at 7am, stupid body clock. Totally different day today, this time yday the sun was streaming through the curtains, today it's dark and grey looking. Rain and gales are forecast :(.

Another day of no plans. I'm going to batch cook some soups to use up veg before I go away on Tues with work, will pop them in freezer. I have some work to do for my NVQ in Management as meeting the tutor tomorrow in work. Also want to sort some paperwork and scan some recipes into laptop. And pack my case for work trip as tomorrow will be a busy day.

Looking forward to the Singapore F1 today :D I visited the circuit in Nov last year on my travels so it will be brilliant to see the cars on places I've stood (yes I'm an F1 geek :o).

OS wise - nothing needs doing really. Just the soups to be made.

    Have a good day all

Morning Flutterby, Hester and all who follow,

    Hugs to Elona and Topsy.

Get well soon to Taplady and Taplord.

    Happy Sunday to everyone else.

Up early this morning as DD1 and her German visitor are off to Alton Towers for the day, there is much excitement in our house!
DD2 is going shopping in Derby with some friends and DS has a rugby match, it is going to be a busy day.

I still have a huge pile of marking to do so that is my day sorted.
There is also a food fair in a nearby village and I would like to fit in a trip to that.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

Morning all - it's really quite cold here; I may force myself into the shower just to warm up, and have put the heating on for half an hour. Apart from that, things are okay and I got all the laundry done although not put away yet. I did roast chicken last night (mmm, gotta love roasties in beef dripping) and we snuggled under a duvet to watch 'Constantine' with several of the cats. I'm making carrot & coriander soup with bread for lunch (got to do massive amounts of washing-up first) and DH has conceded that homemade bread is actually nice, even if he won't use it for packed lunches. I'm finding the basic rapid rise programme on my Panasonic gives excellent crusty results as long as I use 20ml less water than recommended; a medium loaf does us for several days.

I'll probably do something like chilli for dinner tonight as I have some yoghurt and elderly peppers to use up. I sent DH up to Lidl and the market for veg and bits yesterday and he made sure he got some good deals - 2 huge bunches of coriander for £1 (okay, so we only needed one) and vast quantities of carrots for £1.40. He's learning when it comes to the budget, is happiest when following a list, and is pretty good at comparing prices. Nothing else really vital on the agenda for today - I still need to shred the paperwork from yesterday and I think I'll just potter and maybe cull, rewash and iron the clean bedlinen. I like bed sets to be neatly folded and stored in one of the pillowcases but it's currently just all thrown into a pine chest. I had hoped we'd move some pictures around and put up the notice-board again, but all the tools are off at university with the stepson. I offered to ask the neighbour if we could borrow his, but DH doesn't want to, so that'll have to wait until DSS comes to stay again. Hope everyone's okay :)

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Dull and overcast but nippy here this morning. Both DS1 and DS2 are still snoring away and DH and I are enjoying a peaceful start to the morning with a cuppa.

Dinner last night was a naughty takeaway, but we haven't had one for a while so was a nice change as we did chose something we haven't had before. Lunch today will be roast pork, unwrapped pork yesterday afternoon and put into the casserole dish I'm going to cook it in, wrapped the bottom in tin foil then dried and salted the surrounding fat - this should have dried out overnight, so will make some good crackling - we'll see! I will serve this with the usual roast accompliments, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, yorkshires, gravy and apple sauce, I don't do a dessert after roast as no-one has room! We will eat this at the table in the dining room, as I've now discovered how to use the pc to watch Grand Prix on iplayer - I have happy DH and boys!

Yesterday I went out with DH to see the caravanning people and then went straight to see the outlaws, then visited shoe shop as DH needed new "going out" boots as his old one's had sprung a leak and couldn't be fixed so he threw them away before we left Scotland in the summer and has been managing without since, so he found 2 pairs he liked so we bought both! he doesn't spend very much on clothes/shoes, in fact I see what he needs and just buy it for him, he, like most men hates shopping and is ok whilst we're shopping for him but as soon as he has made his purchases he wants to go home! So all those jobs got done. This morning DH will go and collect his van for work tomorrow and take the ladder back that we borrowed from my parents (it's a really long ladder and won't safely fit on a roof rack so putting it in DH's van is the only option). The menfolk also have a few jobs to do outside, cut the lawns, cut back some bushes/shrubs etc, this all needs doing today as the weather looks dire for the next few days, whilst they are doing that I will prep food for lunch, then whilst meat is cooking, I will get the remaining ironing done, managed to get 2 loads dry on the line yesterday, this includes boys uniforms so must get that done, dirty wash basket must be nearly empty - shame it never stays that way for very long!

Have done a sketchy menu for the week, so will endeavour to not buy any more food, although I'm going to cook something new/different 1 night a week from now on. As I baked on Friday I have sweet treats in the tins too, so desserts and pack-ups are taken care of. I do have a pretty good storecupboard so probably have ingredients to make loads of different dishes just have never tried.

Have a peaceful and restful Sunday x

Have a good day, stay safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

Not much OS going on here today - we're off to Anfield later for what will be a very emotionally charged home game. Will have brunch before the match.

Made some Christmas cakes yesterday and have a couple more to bake later, would also like to make some jam from fruit in the freezer. The washing needs sorting, and the ironing pile is growing again too!

We went to see a fab Led Zeppelin tribute band last night, the guitarist & front man are just like the real thing, even down to their mannerisms & techniques.

Am off to make a brew & smoothies before we set off to Liverpool - have a good day everyone.

    Morning all,

Wet and cold here today :(,the garden is so dry though, I am sure it will appreciate it.

Got a lady from work coming to collect a sofa at 11, its an old one that I have been keeping in the conservatory, but we have decided to take one of the black leather sofas out of the lounge and replace it with a nice armchair, so the leather one can go in the conservatory, she is collecting it for her niece who is setting up home, I am glad someone will get some use out of it.

Went to visit a local Uni with dd yesterday, she loved it, she has several more to visit, I am keeping very quiet on the subject, and will let her make her own mind up, the fees are  though.

Dinner today is jacket spuds, with ham, cheese and salad, need to get some ham, actually scrap that we will have beans and cheese, I have them both in the cupboard.

Will go and see dad later on, and the dog will need a good run.

    Have good days all xx
