Just switched to EDF blue - how long does the meter reading part take?

Hi there,

I've just switched to EDF blue and had confirmation that they would start supplying my electricity from the 21st September and asked me to supply a meter reading within 5 days of this date.

I supplied a meter reading on the 21st via the automated system on the phone and I can see that this reading has been added to my account.

However, when I log in, the Contract Tracker still reads 'Your contract is almost registered. There are just a few meter reading details we need to sort out. If you haven’t heard from us already, we’ll be in touch soon about these. Not long now.'

As they have a meter reading, it should be all set, so does anyone know how long this last part takes as I have never switched suppliers before, so not sure if I need to chase anything?

Thanks
Rob

My tracker changed to a green spot with "contract live" about 10 days after my official take over date, the meter reading box now shows the "date of last reading" as the take over date with the take over reading.

The readings have to be passed to their contracted agent, the Data Collector, for validation based on the history your old suppliers Data Collector sends to them.

Its all very quick so it should be validated or passed to all required parties in the next week or so. From there, the delays are often longer in sending you a final bill but Ofgem state it must be no more than 6 weeks unless a problem in the data/readout is found, in which case its down to "reasonable timescales".

The EDF online account system still needs more work, in my opinion. It's not that reliable, and although your meter readings may be there today, they could even disappear tomorrow

But fear not, EDF have your readings. If you have the email (or the message in 'My messages') that confirms the takeover (not estimates it) then that is when it happened. :)

After they took my first DD payment, a day later they oddly provided a statement covering the initial 3 days estimated usage since the supply was taken over.

My supply supposedly started on 11th September according to the EDF email and the message in 'My Messages'. But still my online account status is showing the above too.
I contacted EDF via the online contact system 9 days ago to get an update but have not had a reply. They might be cheaper than E.On but EDF have not inspired confidence in me so far.

I signed up 12 months ago and my gas is still not sorted :)

  • Thanks for all the replies and information. I'll just patiently wait until next weekend as it sounds like it should be sorted by then! :-)

That seems to be common with EDF with their new SAP system. They've obviously got problems as there have been a number of threads/posts exactly the same.

Expect they will attempt to bill you the full amount despite it being their issue...so stick to the 12 month rule.

Also, the DD tends to be based on one fuel hence a nasty catch up. Suggest you check on this part.

  • I started a switch to EDF at the beginning of September. My online account only shows a switch for gas:eek:. I have contacted them and they assure me it is for both and they reset my account but still nothing there for electric. Also, my date for gas has been pushed back by a week - is this usual for EDF?

I'm not so confident EDF still have my gas meter reading.

I switched to them earlier this month, and supplied both gas & electric meter readings online on the advised switching dates. (well actually, I only siupplied the electric ones on the day they took over the electric as that was all they allowed me to input online, but supplied both gas & electric readings on the day they took over the gas as they wouldn't just accept the gas reading on that day)

Now all reference to my gas meter reading has vanished for some days. I just called EDF who said I was not on supply from them yet. I said they had already confirmed earlier that they were supplying me, have already collected a dd payment specifically for gas, and my old supplier has already supplied me with their final gas bill.

They've gone away to investigate and hopefully (a) find if they do currently supply me gas and if so, (b) reinstate the ability to input gas meter readings online on my account.

    Did someone say shambles...?
