Bought faulty electrical item from e bay

I know it was silly but i won an electrical item off e bay and when i got it.....it didn't work (shock!!!)...but i fully expected it would,i guess i trust people too much. I t didn't work from the moment i plugged it in and eventually it tripped my electrics. Nothing would get it to work so i e mailed the seller who is adamant it worked when it was sent which, quite honestly, really can't be true.

Have opened a case with e bay and he has said he won't refund me.

Do you think there is any chance e bay will be able to make him? I lost alot of money on this and it's just not fair :(

  • you will be asked to return item ...use tracking...and seller will have to refund once item is received. leave the case open, be polite and continue to communicate where prompted. you will be asked to escalate case if you are not happy with sellers response, or if there is no response. Ebay /paypal will then take over with the case and there is a very high chance you will get a refund.

the return postage has to be paid by you
  • Thank you...do you know if the original postage and packing costs may be refunded

Your original payment of item price and p&p will be refunded
Highly unlikely your seller will refund return postage

Just to reiterate what hiccup said...make sure you send it back fully tracked (special delivery or courier).
  • Well,i was told by e bay to return the item which i have done, they sent me a pre paid postage label and i have provided them with the tracking number for it...it is now awaiting delivery back to the seller and once they receive it i will be refunded in full. What i am wondering is if he refuses the item back...will i get a refund?
  • Anyone??:(

Yes, ebay only ask you to send the item back. The tracking showing delivery, attempt delivery or a refusal will be enough. If that happens get straight on the phone to ebay.

Bought three kitchen units off eBay a few months ago every unit damaged, asked seller for refund but they refused. Opened case on eBay which went in my favour, ended up with full refund including postage to me but had to pay for return and tracking. Seller claimed goods had not been returned but tracking proved they had. Original cost of units was £230 which was refunded but return postage cost me nearly £70 so still lost out thanks to a dodgy seller with (at the time) 100% positive feedback.

Was the seller Susan7***?, If so I had the same thing happen to me concerning a china sink which had a large crack in it last year.
  • Thanks everyone....delivery was attempted today....surprise surprise not successful...just what i thought would happen!
