We locked ourselves out of the house - thinking of getting a key safe

My gran has one of those ones where you turn the numbers to get the combination and then re-scramble. I find it a pain in the butt to be honest, sometimes it just won't play ball and is very hard to move for some reason.
I'd be inclined to get a push-button one
Thanks for the heads-up. Have got a push button one on the strength of it0 -

Change the locks for one that needs a key to lock it? Impossible to lock yourself out then.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
I wonder how secure they really are if someone wanted to break it off the wall and get in?
We have an elderly neighbour who has one for carers and my DH thinks it looks very vulnerable....0 -

But dont those ones mean you have to lock yourself in at night when youre in the house? Which isnt very safe if a fire was to occur.0 -

I assume that yes they are fairly easy to extract from the wall...but then there is the locking mechanism that the key is inside...that really isnt easy to get into unless you know the code as its locked on a double ended plate on the one we got.
I guess its like most things...theres a way round everything...but im quite confident that someone wouldnt necessarily go to the hassle of breaking into the keysafe to obtain the key anymore than a chance burgular would smash a window on your property to gain entry if needed/wanted.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Hi,
what happens if you forget the combination, if you can forget the key then,,,,,,,,,,0 -
You set the combination to what you want....if you cant remember a 4 digit number of your choice then perhaps its not the thing for you!frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

I need a key to lock my door from the outside, but you don't need a key to get out. I don't think they sell them like that anymore, due to the fire risk.0 -
My parents were anxious about having a keysafe outside so we bought them this one - https://www.keysafe.co.uk/police_approved_supra_c500_keysafe_002049
It is reassuringly heavy and solid. Even if someone got it off the wall, which is unlikely, I doubt they'd be able to open it.0
