Save money - resuse plugin refills

with plugin air freshener refills costing around £2-£3 each, I found that you can easily and very cheaply refill these...

1. take the perfume bottle out of its plugin holder
2. place the bottle in a beaker mof warm water (so the water submerges the bottle).
3. leave it to stand for few hours/overnight & the water will have filled the perfume bottle.
4. Remove the bottle from the beaker & add a few drops of perfume scent or oil (you can buy these from most shops that sell aromatherapy oils/oil perfume burners, etc.) to it. I use lavender oil (@ £1 for 3 50ml bottles).
5. Leave the bottle to stand for a little while for the oil to enter the bottle.
6. Thoroughly dry the bottle and place back in the plugin holder.

You'll be amazed when you plug it back in....the aroma floods out. :-)

What a good idea I would have been afraid to try but I will now, thanks.

Not something that I could try as I have never bought any air fresheners. Let alone ones that plug in to the electric.

The reasons being I don't like leaving things left plugged in while I am out. Told you I was strange ;) . And I don't think a lot of the perfumes are good for you full of chemicals. So I just open windows to air to get rid of any smells that are lingering.

But if you saves you some money try it.

    Yours

be careful of filling these as they may become flamable when the "liquid" is heated... sorry, just wanted to mention it...

The Ambi Puria ones (some) are on TMF at the mo, flashed across the front of pack 'Money back guarantee'. I got one in Sainsburys yesterday @ £3.99.

  • The point about these things being flammable is well made - I read an article recently which was produced by the Fire Brigade, in which they commented that the majority of house fires recently have been attributed to plug-in air fresheners. At one time it was faulty wiring, but as old houses are regenerated, this has been taken over by the good old plug-ins.

Personally, I wouldn't have one in the house because of the fire risk - and after that, I'm quite sure that having synthetic aromas wafting about the place can't do anybody any good. Don't see the harm in having a house that smells of life. Whenever I smell lavender polish and cabbage, it immediately transports me back in time to my Nanna's house - and I don't see that as a bad thing. :)

  • Never seen the point of pumping chemicals into the air that that I breathe. If there's a smell, open a window! I wouldn't class these air fresheners as money saving items.
Humans only use around forty percent of their brains capacity. Imagine what we could achieve if we used the other seventy percent!

Hope that was a joke! Don't ever, ever put vinegar in these things.

Not too fond of those electrical thingies either, don't want chemicals sprayed into the air, and as others have said there is the fire risk.

a safer way of getting a similar type of smell wafting around is to rub a thin layer of essential oil (or better yet, put it in a spray bottle with some water and spray it on) your lightbulbs

the smell gently fills the air when the lights are on ;)
