Kitchen Refit

Mmm - I thought I just had albeit site unseen. Lets see what KDRs fitter comes up with shall we? Two quid in the charity box says its not far off mine.
Cheers
2.5k excluding all the things you have said doesn't seem like that great a price - you've excluded most of the hard bits after all! I'd gladly take that much just to screw together some units and stick them to the wall!
If a day rate is £200 that's 12 days which isn't great if it doesn't include disposal and any electrics, making good of plastering works etc. On my own I'm pretty sure I did that much in 3-4 days not working flat out (but with pre-built carcasses) and that was the first time I'd fitted a kitchen.
It was all the electrics, making good, plastering and tilling that really took the time at least 50% of the total.0 -
You don't read do you? Its the OPs scope of work on a site uneen basis so it has some contingency - not to do so would be crazy. It includes ripping out including the old tiles and all but not disposal. It includes the tiling. It includes then decorating. It cannot include major replastering, it cannot include major electrics if they be found to be needed. It will obviously cover minor patchwork if necessary. If the flloor can't be tiled and has to be ripped up then thats extra obviously. If its suitable as is then theres no extra.
Its not for just screwing a few cabs on the wall.
These things aren't calculated on dayrate.
You need to make up your mind. One moment you are telling the OP that £2 - 3k is optimistic and next that my site unseen figure isn't a great price. Does not compute.
OPs asking what is a fair price for getting someone in to do the job he specified. I've answered his question. I am not sure I understand your burning desire to pull it to bits.

I think there's a bit of misunderstanding - I took your post to indicate that for 2.5k you would basically screw the cabs on the wall since you had seemed to exclude everything.
I think 2-3k for the whole lot is optimistic because of all the unseen elements - if the electric circuit for the hob and oven isn't up to it that can potentially add £300+ for a new circuit and possibly CU too. Taking up tiles on a concrete base was a nightmare compared to on an overboarded wooden floor. Plus all the other potential things. Hence optimistic - it could work out that way but there are a lot of things that can push the price up.0 -

I would have to say that there are two prices. One price where you take all the responsibility for the design, measuring, sourcing and delivering the materials and sorting out missing items or adjustments = major headache.
Another price where you put that all onto someone else shoulder where they take responsibility for all the headaches.
So there is one price when you do it yourself and another price whem you employ someone else to do it for you.
Own supply and someone else to fit will be more expensive as its like taking on an unknown project.
Getting someone else to finish an unfinished project is even more expensive.
All factors to think of when making home improvements and who and hoe you intend on doing them.
Good luck.
Oh dear, you sound like the typical tradesman trying to put someone off doing their own kitchen design and sourcing.
We came across this attitude five years ago, when I sized up and designed the kitchen, then bought units and appliances from Homebase for a little over £2K (large kitchen, plus SMEG dishwasher, AEG 70CM hob and AEG 90cm extractor). I then sourced the sink and taps plus other bits and bobs.
The first kitchen fitter to arrive, got snotty and said that I should send back the hob and extractor and a couple of the units because they would look "stupid" - I wonder how he manages to get any clients!:(
We then found another fitter, and we worked together on the kitchen. He charged a fair rate, did a great job, and we now have a lovely kitchen which everyone comments on.
So, to the OP, I can only say, stick to your task, because there are many people out there who will just fit a kitchen for you.0 -
Jaynne, I'd be happy with a quote along those lines.I think there's a bit of misunderstanding - I took your post to indicate that for 2.5k you would basically screw the cabs on the wall since you had seemed to exclude everything.

He'll have the best knowledge on fitting ikea units.
This should eliminate the supply n fit part of your problem
KDR - I really look forward to receiving this info. Please PM me when you have his details. I will def. follow up. Thanks:)0 -
Thanks all - it has been interesting to hear your opinions. Seem like there is room to haggle or go straight to Ikea or keep trying for a more reasonable independent installer.0

Well just to say our kitchen was delivered as promised yesterday and me and hubby have speant the past 8 hours building the base cupboards and levelling them ready for the plumber and electrician to finish off tomorrow and so that the granite can be measured. Will no doubt take the rest of the week to get the inserts and doors sorted as well as the top cupboards0

8 hours is a whole day's work - I guess that kind of contingency is factored into a quote. I'm impressed with granite! Did you source that cleverly too?0 -
