What should I do about this buyer?

I sold an item ...buyer paid Straight away and I sent the item straight away item came to about £15. I keep getting emails from the buyer saying she hasn't received it! I said I shall look into it as I defo sent it! The thing is I remember going to the local PO that day and the people in there scare me so when I saked for a COP etc he shouted and glared at me so I didn't get oneicon11.gif

You can imagine the predicament I am in I have mailed the buyer and said that I have another item exactly the same but they don't want it says "I don't wanna take yours off you...blah blah" grrr icon8.gif they wanna hold on to see what the PO has to say!

I am taking their word that they haven't recieved this as how would I know! I have no proof I sent it nor proof they received it! I don't want to refund them as I will lose money!

What do I do?

Shall I send them the one I have here (It is exactly the same) and say that it got returned to sender etc or what shall I do??

  • How long has it been since you sent the item? How did you send it?

Do you have another proof of postage reciept that you haven't put the postcode on, that you sent a couple of days before or after with similar postage costs?

I do get really annoyed with PO staff they should always give you proof of posting you shouldn't have to ask! I do feel for you as I get embarrassed when asking for proof.

I had an item that wasn't recieved I sent it second class and was told by royal mail that you can claim after 15 working days. I didn't have proof of posting I asked for it but the PO bloke gave me a receipt for another of my parcels and wrote the cost of the stamp on it. So I sent that with the online claim form and as a gesture of goodwill RM sent me a cheque for the cost of the item (which was actually more than I sold it for!!).

If you really want to send the item that you have and tell them it was returned to you as you'd put an incomplete address. Although I would wait until you are definetly sure it is lost in the post it would be embarrassing for you when they recieve two although I doubt they'd complain.

  • The only way you could prove that they are lying is if you sent the item by recorded delivery.

Have you looked at their feedback? Is there hints of this happening before with them.

You appear to have what looks like a very understanding buyer here, so its completely unfair to suggest they are lying!!!

If they were lying, then why the heck would they tell you not to send your own copy?

You failed to get a Cert of posting, your mistake I am afraid. :(

No they haven't got much feedback and it seems ok but even if it was rubbish how can I prove anything!

I am going throught this at the moment a buyer bought some tickets off me I sent them via insured next day delivery. A couple of days later checked the website noticed they had been signed for and then threw out the receipt, however 3 weeks down the line the buyer with 1 feedback tells me he has'nt received the item. Rang up royal mail got the ticket stub number from po where i posted it and they tell me the owner was'nt in to sign for the tickets and secondly they have a private box. 3 weeks later after many attempts to catch the buyer in they finally make the delivery. i have the guys signature in front of me (hard copy) and he is still saying i have'nt sent the items!!
if you send out the other item the buyer might be stupid enough to email you and say she has 2 items or similar words to that effect and then you have caught her out! at least then you get to keep your 100% feedback record.

failing that send a horses head through the mail and tell them not to bother you again or you'll send the 'Heavies' in!

    Hi angelcake.

I totally understand your frustration with this but I think you are going to have to refund your buyer and try not to make the same mistake twice. You can't prove it was sent and your buyer can't prove it wasn't delivered.
I have to go to our local PO several times a week with maybe 20+ parcels at a time and I get proofs on ALL of them. The lady I see is lazy though and I have to write my own postcodes on the receipts but I don't care at least I have got the proof then if someone does try to pull a fast one. This did happen once and we learnt from it.

Hmmmmm now I read through your OP again.....if your buyer didn't receive the first parcel and you offered him an exact replacement why didn't he take up the offer because I know I would!! Even if hes lying and he did receive the first one he ends up with two and could sell the other one.And if hes not lying surely he would be happy with an exact replacement????
If you do send a replacement spend a little extra and send it recorded because then they have to sign for it and can't say the same again!

    Let us know what happens......lol....

p.s.....how do you get the icon into the text? thx

  • Shelly, by icons I assume you mean the smilies in the text. If this is the case, scroll to the very bottom of this page, and in the left corner is a box titled 'POSTING RULES'. In that box, click on 'smilies'. This will open up a new page, which will show you the code to insert in your text for all the smilies.

Yeah this happened to me a while ago. I sold a CD on AMazon marketplace, buyer emailed me 2 weeks later to say it never arrived. So I offered him a replacement but no refund. I ended up buying a duplicate cd from CDWow for less than he paid me for mine and had it sent direct to him and claimed back from the post office
