does still work had stuff recently in tesco and local co op.

used to work in tesco and when this happened you had to call a runner/ supervisor but rather than wait 10 mins I just put it through anyway.

think it depends on who you get at the checkput to be honest.

oops thanked rather than quoted :o

I was in Tescos last night and bought three lots of reduced bacon and it was suppose to be two for £2.50 I never got any extra discount.

And I know lots of other people have said it does not work any more as they scan the yellow sticker rather than the bar code on the item.

re tesco reductions: bought 8 lots of scotch pancakes to freeze two days ago, they were down to 20p a pack. Didn't realise at the time they were also BOGOF, but they took 80p off at the till making them exactly a bogof. I don't think this has happened to me before.
    • Which supermarket do you work for/did you work for? Im a code checker for morrisons on pre pack fresh
    • What times of day do you reduce prices?i reduce items for the following day the night b4
    • How big are the discounts? I take 20% off for the morning opening
    • What time is the final, final reduction . As the day goes on we slowly bring the price down.
    • Who has the authority to reduce prices?morrisons all staff can reduce by 25%..managers 50% and all the adms and store manager can reduce down to a penny. they put a code in our hht machine and we then input the new price depeneding on how many of the 1 item we got left depends on reductions
    • If a customer asked you to reduce something because it’s on it’s sell-by date are you allowed to? yes
    • Does it vary if it’s a 24-hour store? we dont do 24hr opening
    • And any other useful tips. The best time in our store is about 7pm(1hr b4 close) as we generally selling most things off for less than a 3rd of the origonal price

Trouble is all boots butties are !!!!!! because it's impossible to buy one without being covered in Mayo gunk.... I asked for a customer comments form about a year ago to complain about this but apparently they do not use them... NOT EVERYONE LIKES MAYO -- PROVIDE IT AS A SACHET FOR THOSE THAT DON'T!

according to a magazine i read , they bin it! never reduce - it all goes in the skip! also saw a programme on tv recently showing people collecting from their skips (technically this is stealing) to give the homeless , mostly bread but some veg and other fresh items not quite out of date.

I don't work for M&S, but know that our local M&S (big store) donates all unsold food that has expired to a local homeless centre, they just don't brag about it.

I used to work for Boots and they clearly marked those sandwiches that didnt have mayo on.

Back to the topic though......Boots never used to reduce their sarnies, they either gave them to the local homeless shelter(who came to collect them) or , if not collected sold them very cheap to staff and binned the rest.

Morissons is rubbish for reductions, from what i recall barely 10% off most fresh produce on first reduction. BUT I have had some fantastic buys from the pie counter in the evening.

Sainsburys is best for reductions combined with offers:j

  • I hope I've done this right (It's my first time:A )
I've worked at tesco on tills for years.

We used to lose loads of money on reduced multi savers as the tilll would still take of the full discount even if the item was reduced ;ie-

Cake @ 1.99 BOGOF reduced to 50p, if 2 went through the tilll togegether the till would charge you 2x 50p and then take £1.99 off for the bogoff, meaning that we had paid you 99p to take the 2 cakes.

Eventually the powers above automated the system to recognise this and adjust the discount ie the above example would meen the till would put the 2 cakes in at 50p each then take 50p off as the bogoff. I'm amazed that it took tham so long.:T

So to confirm, at TESCO you do get your BOGOF/multisave even when reduced, but you can't have your cake and eat it (for free any way). Sorry couldn't resist.:rotfl:

This may be true, but if it is a company policy and the staff don't comply with it, they are risking their jobs. It would be unethical to suggest to them that they go against the stated policy just so we could get a 'bargain'. I'm sure Iceland will have a process to check it is being followed.

Nobody forces the manager at this particular branch to do it. She does it herself because she doesn't like the high amounts of shrinkage. Therefore, nobody apart from the manager who has made a concious decision to stick by the old rules is being unethical.
