I want to upgrade to a home cinema system
Slightly confused now...
Are you talking about getting a blu-ray player as well as the PS3?
I'm not convinced you'd notice much of a difference. Sony use the same blu-ray drive in the PS3 as in their basic blu-ray players. Unless you're talking about upgrading to a really expensive blu-ray player. I can't comment on whether that's worth it. We just have a Sony blu-ray player that cost about £140 a couple of years ago. Pretty sure the picture from the PS3 wouldn't be any different...0 -
if you have a PS3 already then don't waste your money on a blu ray player you already have one.
if you are actually wanting a surround sound system and thinking of buying a setup that includes a bluray player (an all-in-one-box solution) then I would say don't, instead invest your money in an amplifier and some speakers which you will connect your PS3 to the amp then the amp to your TV, you will also get your PS3 games in 5.1 with this solution.0 -
I have a 42" plasma and a PS 3 to watch them on
42" doesnt say if its 720p, 1080p, 2k or 4k definition
Which version of the PS3 you have - the original fat version or the newer slim version?
No matter which one you have you already have a very good blu ray player and the only reason for buying a dedicated player would be for a quieter playback but you will get no improvement in picture quality.
If you have the fat version and decide to go down the proper home cinema route then you'd need to connect it up via HDMI and allow the PS3 to do the decoding of DTS MA but the slim version you can pass it encrypted and your AVR can do the decoding.
If you are trying to convince her of the benefits of a sound system then get yourself down to a decent hifi shop which has a demo room and get a free listen to whatever they happen to have set up there0 -
And what TVs or PC screens are currently around to display 4k resolution?InsideInsurance wrote: »Sorry, blu ray is only 1080p where as you can download media in 4k (4096p). So not only can you get blu-ray quality but actually a lot better!.....
4k is probably a long way away from being a consumer product.0 -
They are mainly projectors rather than screens but since you ask about TVs there is a LG 84LM9600 or Sony XBR-84X9000

I am not impressed with my blu ray palyer, it is a git to use compared to my dvd player. It tries to be too clever. I researched the model and took advice before buying it but it is a waste of money.0
