Question about long grain rice/rice pudding

  • I start mine off on the hob with milk and rice in the pan, bring to boil and simmer for 10-15 mins or so until rice starts to swell, then add sugar, pour into a buttered oven proof dish, sprinkle with nutmeg if liked, and bake in oven for 30-40 mins at about 200C.

    Don't forget that if your rice is already cooked, you can just freeze it to use another day.

    Its time for rice pudding but I only have long grain white rice in. Its from a "value" range, so goes quite stodgy anyway. I think it would be fine for the pud-but I'd welcome the opinions of others-thanks.
  • I have seen long grain rice used on the tv for rice pudding, I think the only difference would be as its a slightly longer grain than pudding rice the rice grains will just be a bit plumper.

  • Ooooh good to know, I seem to have tons of long grain rice, but don't use it very often (not quite sure why I bought so much :D), DH and the kids love rice pudding so I'll be making plenty of it now :)
