Cheap, eye catching car around 2k
Options
So you may have seen my previous post recently, what car under 4k. Well after hours of research I excitedly decided on a Hyundai coupe. I exitedly told my housemate, showed her pics cus she had never heard ofit. I get home from work and with a smug grin she tells me she's now going to Iave a look at a car, the one I want.
Well what a slap in the face that was! After a few words she is now looking at others. Her requirements are simply, it has to be cheap to insure, and look cool. She's looked at ford puma, vw beetle, and Toyota Celica, but all are too expensive to insure. Got any suggestions before she ruins my idea? She's not fussed on age or mileage, but she has no car knowledge at all so something that wouldn't require to much maintenance. Cheers

How about Toyota Yaris 1.5vvt-i T sport0

I dont get it, you are annoyed because she wants the same type of car as you ?
What does it matter
if anything she is confirming your good taste
a car is a car though at the end of the day0 -
It felt like she was trying to out do me. She has the money now,so could buy it tomorrow. I've been saving like no tomorrow and will get enough early next year, but where's the excitement in getting it then when you've already been beaten to it and been out done? Everyone will snigger at me 'copying her" even though it was my plan originally. I think it just annoyed me more because she never even had an interest in it til I said I was getting it.0

MX5 would be the usual answer, cheap to run, cheap parts, and very cheap to buy.0

I agree, why on earth would it matter whether your housemate has the same car as you, sounds like sour grapes on your part and quite childish.
If you are really going to force her to have a different car then the MX5 suggested above is a great car and will be much more fun to drive than your Hyundai. £2,000 will get her a fantastic condition Mk1, they have bullet proof mechanicals are cheap to insure and maintain, but do rust, so that needs to be checked carefully. Check out mx5nutz.com and mx5oc.co.uk for enthusiast owned cars for sale.0 -
I at no point forced her to not get one. I told her I was upset so she's looking at other options. I will not stop her but by the time it comes to get mine it would just be dull. Maybe I am being silly but when I told my friends, they thought it was outrageous, and even said they would have slapped her
so perhaps that's what got me wound up about it.
Anyway..... Shes looked at mx5s before and doesn't like them. At the moment she likes the Citroen c3 convertible....0 -
Why is it now under 2k? It that her budget? If it's 4k she might be able to pick up one of these privately

Alfa Romeo GTV/Spider
Plenty for £2k
Tell her to get the c3 pluriel, they're a bit naff so you can be all smug0 -
Her budget is 2k, she has the money now and wants a car now. Again I've already showed her the Alfa Romeo gtv, not interested.
She's not really bothered by performance. She just want a car that looks good.0
