Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition....any good?

Hi there!

As someone who's in the hunt for a tablet it was initially Apple with their iOS6-powered iPad 3 and Google's Nexus 7. I have now disregarded those so-called "budget" tablets as i wish to invest on a really good tab.

Since hearing of problems with the iOS 6 on the iPad 3 and issues on the Nexus 7 I have decided on checking Motorola tabs (especially the Xoom 2 Media Edition) because i heard about their build quality and being an american company you can be sure of its quality.

But, from what i know it is still stuck with Honeycomb 3.2.

Any news on when this 4/4.1 updates' gonna be?
How can i NOT go wrong with a Motorola tab? What makes it good if not better compared to the Nexus 7 or the iPad 3?

Is it a good investment?

Please advice.

  • Not another Tablet vs iPad vs whatever question, you probably have not answered my question about why you got rid of your iPad2 before. Or are you still researching your quest to be a Tech Gadget Reviewer https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4069049

Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition seems to around £200?
It run with ARM Cortex-A9 with OMAP 4430, where the speed is not comparable to Nexus 7. I ignoring ipad mini as I don't know the spec at the moment.

I don't see the point of getting Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition, unless you want front camera, or slighly bigger size screen. But the battery life is not that good.
IMO, you should consider nexus 7 for it's ips screen or acer a110 for its micro sd & hdmi.

I always thought having a "current-gen" and a quad-core (or a hi-spec dual-core) Android 4/4.1 tablet is better as it will get more updates, more "up to date" specs and is future-proof.

I really think around 8" is the ideal tablet size and one that has a really good battery life. Never mind if it has a rear camera or not but at least a really strong & powerful specs to back it up like 1.0Ghz processor and a 1GB RAM and a pretty decent GPU.

I also wanted a tablet that i can go and use with a bit of Office or documents viewing & editing and be able to send those document to my Google Cloud printer wirelessly anytime.

Still not convinced by Acer's durability & build quality on its Nexus 7. ANd i always thought Motorola being one better than Acer in terms of those issues.

WOuld you guys agree or not?
