3 - Keep existing number via internal transfer

Hi all

I am after a bit of help if at all possible. I've had a quick scan of the boards but haven't been able to find the answer to my question anywhere else.

I am a current 3 customer on a sim only, 30 day rolling contract. I have just preordered the iPhone 5, taking advantage of the Quidco £101 cash back offer. I was intending on keeping my number as I've had it for a number of years and I also use it for work, but the only information I can find is in regards to porting from another provider.

Is it possible to transfer the number internally? The chap in customer services didnt seem to understand what I was asking.

I could possibly port to a payg sim and then port back, but that seems like a lot of hassle.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Not at '3'.

Not a lot and this is the only way.
  • No worries, thanks for the help. I'll grab a payg sim and start swapping the numbers about
  • I've not tried it yet, but a retentions agent told me it was possible when I was speaking to him the other day. However part of that may be because my old contract is going on to pay-as-you-go. Alternatively he may just have been lying...
A friend on O2 has managed this every time for the last few years without having to port out and back in again so it's evidently possible sometimes (he said he gets the PAC and gives it back to them).

AFAIK, O2 and Vodafone.are the only providers that do this. And definitely neither needs a PAC for an internal transfer.

AFAIK, PAC is network-to-network, interally they'd just upgrade.

I called Three about this recently - I could upgrade to an iPhone 5 (from my SIM-only contract) and have the number transferred. I chose to upgrade to a different SIM-only plan.

If you want the Quidco as well, unfortunately you'll have to do it as a new customer through the website, port out and port back in :(
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.
