Seller not going through with sale due to low sale price (collection item)

Hi,

Just had a message about an item I won today - local collection item. The seller says she thought she had a reserve set/her e-bay playing up and 'can't possibly sell' for the sale price and that she will be re-listing with the reserve.

I would like to leave negative feedback along the lines of 'seller refused to complete sale price as she decided sale price was too low' as I am obviously disappointed.

Obviously I haven't paid as was going to pay upon collection.

If I leave the negative feedback could she then open a non-paying bidder case and get a mark against my account in revenge?

Thanks

  • Yes, if you haven't paid, the seller could get the feedback removed and you would appear to be a non-paying bidder, who left feedback.

The way around this is to make a paypal payment, which obviously shows up as paid. At that point, the seller may relent and provide the item. If not, they will refund you or you can claim the paypal refund as an INR (Item Not Received). Either way, your feedback will not be removed.

  • If I don't pay via PayPal and they did a non paying bidder strike on me would e-bay not look at the message they sent me saying they would not sell the item?

Have not replied to her message yet - tempted to pay and then message saying 'please refund as just seen your message about you not going through with the sale'.....sneaky but it has really bugged me lol
  • if they opened a NPB then all you have to do is pay to avoid the strike and then if they wont refund you open and INR case against them.

I would pay now, if they don't refund then open an INR. You can also file a non-performing seller report. Then leave negative after that.

No, eBay won't start looking for messages. The seller will simply report you for non-payment and ask for the negative feedback to be removed, as you've never paid.

That's exactly the point of paying via paypal. I've had a similar situation several times. Sometimes if you make a paypal payment, they relent and provide the item. Other times, you get a refund, but either way, they know you can leave a negative and there's nothing they can do to remove it.

  • When I did a mutual cancellation both myself and the buyer were able to leave each other feedback. Not sure if someone more experience can verify if that's true for all cancellations?

Of course, the downside would be the seller will get their fees back which, actually, it would be nicer if they didn't for jerking you around. ;)

If not, I would be sneaky and just pretend you didn't receive their email, pay via paypal then email to ask when you can pick it up. If she doens't refund you, you can open an INR, and in any event you've got the satisfaction of causing her a lot of hassle which might just make her think twice before faffing anyone else about in future.

It's not sneaky - you bid and won and now they are refusing to honour the contract and provide the item. ;)

Hehe I know I am just a wimp ;) Sat here debating whether to pay and then do as everyone has said....guess I am a nicer person than they are for even hesitating about this.

If the message was apologetic I would not have been so miffed, that and the fact that it something for my baby lol

Whether you pay or not, don't agree to a mutual cancellation.
  • Right everyone here has made my mind up now - just going to pay and then send the message saying only seen message after payment, please refund.
