People on Ebay thinking you're stupid!

I had a top listed on Ebay as BNWT and there were 9 watchers on it but no bids by the last day. I then discovered a minor fault with it (a metal stud missing, but not that noticeable) so I just ended the listing rather than change the listing, so that people already watching it couldn't complain after they had bid. I ended it stating it was no longer available for sale.

As soon as it finished someone messaged me saying she was planning on bidding on my top but her phone had run out of battery and would I accept the starting price plus postage as it didn't sell? Funny how her phone suddenly had power when it ended ;) Also it annoyed me that she just assumed it didn't sell. It would have sold, I just ended it early!

Then I got a message today from someone else saying she thought she had bid on my top but was stupidly just watching it and was I planning on putting it back on ebay?

10 days it was listed for!!! I know people like to bid at the last minute, but that's the chance you take when you're tight! lol If you liked it then you should have put a bid on it ;)

Not sure whether to relist it as what's the betting that all the people that were watching it the first time will just bid without reading the revised listing!? Then moan afterwards ;)

  • Well the way i read it, it's lucky for you that they didn't put a bid on it.....a lot of people bid at the end and a lot of people watch but don't bid.
It's a free listing weekend so nothing to lose by relisting, also the people who were watching before may only have been looking for BNWT so as it will now be new with defects it may not even come up in their search.
Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D

This happened to me, as a buyer, it was my own fault so tough. I didn't bid and the seller must have received a BIN offer and sold it, as it was showing sold for £11. I would have paid more but I always bid late in the auction as I try to avoid the type of bidder that bids every time someone else does, like a stalker, and it also stops me getting caught up in auction fever where I end up thinking I really really need something that I was originally only interested in :rotfl:

I have never contacted a seller afterwards though I have just accepted that my gamble didn't pay off. Maybe if it had more than 12 hours to go you should have just changed the listing and flagged it or maybe now if you relist it they might jump in quick and have a bidding war ;)

I'm glad they didn't bid, it just gets on my nerves that they bother to lie about why they didn't bid afterwards.

I shouldn't ebay when I have PMT lol. I'm 10 times more irritated by annoying people on there today, and there seems to be a lot of of them at the moment. No one leaving me any feedback either. RUDE! 19 people not left me any yet and probably wont bother. People bidding with private fb and a new account. What's that about? Why would you make your feedback private when you only have 3 feedback? People not paying or replying to emails about when they want to collect something (and pay) for something I've already relisted twice due to one timewaster. Grrr! Rant over, I'm off to post my stuff to the people who DID pay ;) since I've waited all day for the people who didn't so I could post their stuff today. Well they can wait now till I can get to the post office again.

The same thing happened with my daughter, she was selling a baby coat and no one was bidding, so as she wasn't going to be at home for a week, she decided to end the listing and re-list it when she got back. As soon as she ended it, someone asked her if she would accept 99p for it plus the postage. She said she ended it as she was going on holiday and would re-list it when she got back. She said that's fine, you can post it when you get back. THE CHEEK!

How long is it reasonable to wait for payment for something? Someone who bought two of my items last night and asked for combined postage has now just messaged me saying she's not paying me till weds 26th sept. If she'd told me that to start with, I'd have cancelled her bids! I'd rather re-list them! She never told me this when she asked if I would combine the postage if she won them both. A week to pay!

Ebay give a buyer at least 8 days - 4 days before you can open a NPB dispute, and 4 days for them to pay before you can close it.

It wouldn't annoy me as much if she'd have at least asked if it was ok, or do you mind if I pay a week later? (even if I have no choice, it's just polite IMO) She just told me she was, and expects me to just be around to post her parcel a week later. How does she know I'm not going on holiday for 2 weeks when she decides to pay? Is she going to wait around for 2 weeks for me to post her parcel? No I doubt it.

I always pay straight away when I win something. I just expect other people to do the same, or at least within a couple of days at the most. I would never message someone and just TELL them I'm paying them a week later

I have to agree with you, i won two items over the weekend (one friday and one saturday) and i messaged both sellers to let them know i was away for the weekend and asked if they minded me paying for them when i got back as i only had the internet on my phone and prefered to pay when i had some security rather than use my phone. Both sellers where fine with it, and thanked me for letting them know, but had they asked me to i would have paid for them as i had agreed to when i bid.

She'd already messaged me asking me to combine the postage before she'd won either of them. She'd already bid on one of them. I said I would, and she asked me to invoice her if she was lucky enough to win both of them. Unfortunately for me she won both of them. I just wonder why she didn't say she wouldn't be able to pay for a week when she first messaged me, as I ask in my listings if they can possibly pay within 24hrs of winning the item, as I usually time my listings to end when I can get to the post office the next available day. Obviously some people can't or wont, but if it says it on there, then why didn't she bother to mention it?
  • I've just started reading this board,it's not good i'm getting wound up already lol

Why are some buyers so rude,I have had the same problems,a buyer won an item last Friday gone, then over the weekend they message to say they have run out of funds(they buy tons on Ebay it seems) and they will pay on Thursday(yesterday)

Not is it ok,or do you mind etc, just a message saying when they will pay like it's a given I will wait and then just toddle off to the PO with their item as I don't have anything else to take so will have to make a special journey.

If that's not bad enough, they haven't even paid now
