I am at home alone with just my baby son during the day. He was asleep when a man rang the doorbell holding a flimsy badge for Kantar Operations. I know of kantar as I shpandscan. He wanted me to a survey. I asked him how long it would take and he said about 20 mins. I told him I was busy with jobs, tea etc and he said he would come into my house while I was doing my jobs. Is this normal practice. Nowadays u shouldn't be letting random people into your home. I told him after quite a bit of pushy persusion on his part that it wasn't convenient and I was interested.

It's your decision.
That's all there is too it, really.
It's possible that you could answer questions whilst you performed certain tasks but, as you say, it's a bit pushy for them to suggest this. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Thanks, i do lots of surveys online but found I was taken off guard by someone wanting to come into my house0 -
I hope you didn't let him in! My husband used to work for National Opinion Polls and he would never have suggested coming into someone's house. If the householder was busy he'd go away and try again another day. He would only have gone in at the householder's invitation. I'm sure that rep wouldn't have done any harm but it doesn't sound very professional for him to have suggested coming in, especially when you were on your own with the baby.0

Single female alone at home? Offering to come in and wait..?
I would of slammed the door in his face and rang the police (non-999 number).0 -
Thanks for yor replies. At least I don't feel so much of a drama queen now. With everything that happens these days you have to be so careful0

I don't even open the door if I don't want to
, never mind invite cold callers in and have them hang around while I do other things. I'd have had no problem at all just saying, no thanks, I'm busy, or just no thanks, i'm not interested, on the doorstep. 0 -

Sorry, what happens these days?
I think you're being a bit paranoid, especially the person saying to call the police!
You said no to their request to come in, end of story.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

They were a possiblel distraction burglar (why did they need to enter the property?), so calling the police on the non-emergency number would not have been an over-reaction."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
I'd let the police know on the non urgent number too, just incase he's someone posing as a survey guy to get access to homes to nick what they can, as maninthestreet said. There was a spate of that sort of thing near me a few years back with the elderly residents being targetted.0

You did the right thing OP, definitely call the non emergency number so it can be logged as there might have been reports of it in the area. Maybe even let the local neighorbourhood watch know.0
